Best type of metal for turntable platform? They are $1500 but an incredible upgrade for a TT-Silent Running Audio. VR platform. I put one under mine and the improvement in sound was the biggest change in my system short of upgrading my speakers from $10K ones to $30K ones!SRA has two separ...
Atma-Sphere Owners, MP-3 Upgrade I had a chance to get the resistors when my MP-3 was made but Ralph moved me away from it saying it was the least vital. And it is quite expensive. But your improvements seem significant. I will think about it.Thanks,Mike
what are some of best tonearms you own or experience with. I had an Ortophon 309 arm on my Woodsong Garrard 301. Replaced it with a Tri-planar SE. the T-p runs circles around the 309. Used to have 20-30% of my record collection that was unlistenable. Now it is rare that a LP is not interesting and enjoyable.
will changing to solid-state make the bass in my wilson sophias better at low volume? IME, tube power will produce full and detailed bass but SS can produce more sharp edges. Tubes have a more loose sound but also more real. If you like that SS sharpness, try it. My preference is tubes.
Remarkably better sound possible with just 1 system component change? HiYou surely have put together a respectable and good system. And I admire your writing and intelligent use of language!Too many casually toss out difficult to follow diatribes.Surely, a unique and interesting room. Super fun. Although I agree that...
The anachronistic CD Transport? And do I really need one. +1 for Schitt transport. Or a used Theta Compli. The Compli originally sold for $2500 and you should be able to get one for around $500. They are built like battleships and are as solid and good as ones costing much more. I have happily used mine ...
CD or DVD player to use as a transport For many years I have used an old Theta Compli.I think it originally sold for $2500. This is a DVD/CD transport with coax output. To get something of similar quality today, you would certainly have to pay many thousands. I paid about $500. Highly ...
Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy? Many speak highly of Nelson’s work. Whitecamaros seems to prefer the 250.8 above all. I surely have heard of the prowess of the 30.8.I have a First Watt M2 which sounds quite SS. Ralph has developed a Class D amp which he says is very similar soun...
AUDIOPHILE OR JUST CRAZY ? geurds,If your system sounds good to you, that is the #1 thing.Great you are satisfied.Maybe, by definition, that makes you a non-audiophile.After all these decades of upgrading, I still think of what I can tweak.AUDIOPHILIA-THE SICKNESS!
Does Anyone Think CD is Better Than Vinyl/Analog? Talk about beating a dead horse! Some like the benefits of digital and some like the benefits of vinyl. And many appreciate both. How many times must we rehash this subject? My opinion, which I have shared before, is that vinyl is a visceral experienc...
Should I use Speaker Spike / Isolation Base or Something? You want to couple the speakers to the floor.IsoAcoistics will decouple as will any soft things like springs. For a night and day improvement go with Stillpoints Ultra Minis. They screw into the speaker. They will couple and turn the vibration to he...
Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy? The more I listen to my Bakoon HPA-01 the more I love it.This is THE SS amp that can satisfy a SET guy or anyone. It leaves me imagining just how spectacular a higher powered Bakoon would sound in my main rig. Meanwhile I am enjoying it with my hea...
Pure tube phono preamp HiI love my Atma-Sphere MP-3. Clean, pure, musical and accurate. It has an excellent phono stage. No need for a separate PS.
Lamm LP2/2.1 vs Luxman EQ-500 Hi Don,I don’t have direct experience with either but have always admired the work of Vladimir Shusuren of Lamm. He maintains a small, ultra high quality company dedicated to the finest in High End Audio. He knows what music sounds like and is abl...
Tonearm suggestion for Garrard 301 schedule ll oil bearing? I currently use an Ortophon RS309 D 12” arm on my Woodsong 301. Believe it is the same as a Jelco.I like it very much but are upgrading to a Triplanar SE at more than double the price. Yet to install the Triplanar but think it will be a significan... |
