Classical music listening... what is a better source High Rez or Vinyl? I used to have a cool Rega RP 1 with a $150 MM cartridge. And a built in phono stage in a Rega Brio integrated.Think your TT rig is much beyond this. For sure, the playback was modest, but the physicality of the needle vibrating in the record grove...
TONE I am outspoken about the issue of “what sounds real”.Our sense of hearing is, perhaps, our most sensitive.I believe that anyone, if not deaf, can instantly hear if a HiFi system sounds real or not. That is, a tone deaf, 90 year old, etc. can easil...
Millercarbon's Mega Moab Mod Meander What Porsche do you have? When younger, I owned 4. A ‘78 SC Targa, ‘94 Carrara Cab, and 2 ‘90 C4 964s. Think my favorite was the SC. Although the C4s were land cruisers. Like a fast cat.You have certainly made an incredible case for your Tectons.A...
Music is sound, sound can be music “Relativism is a family of philosophical views which deny claims to objectivity within a particular domain and assert that facts in that domain are relative to the perspective of an observer or the context in which they are assessed.”My post about...
Is there any value in ultrasonically cleaning a record multiple times? Ultrasonic machines are certainly very good at well cleaning a record. However, IMO, the best way to clean a record is by using the Keith Monks RCM. It uses a surfactant solution brushed into the record spinning on a TT-like platter and then compl...
Music is sound, sound can be music I have been enjoying Mozart in the Jungle on Amazon Prime.A very entertaining series centered around symphonic music. It is somewhat cliche, but a lovely example of “sound as music”.While driving over a bridge, Rodrigo rolls down the window to hear...
recommendation for a high end analog system As you see, for almost the price on the old used SME V you can get a 1200G.However, if you want to go all in with the SOTA, get the SME V and have SOTA rebuilt the TT. Mostly, you will then have a rig that may sound more grounded then the Technics...
recommendation for a high end analog system +1 @dover postSend the TT to SOTA to refurbish with the Eclipse motor.Upgrade the tone arm. Ask SOTA for a recommendation. Then look for a new cartridge. Hana is nice and good price. You are looking at about $5-10k+.And a lot of work.ORSell it all a...
What Rap available on vinyl sounds great on a good system? Thanks for all the suggestions.I am hoping for Rap that incorporates sophisticated musical elements like Kendrick Lemar.
Is LP distortion the record or the cartridge? I actually only have about 1000 hours on my Shilabi. That is about 40 days of 4 hours a day. If the stylus is going bad, that is an awfully short time for a $3000 cartridge. @rauliruegas are you saying that a stylus is only good for about a year?.
Is LP distortion the record or the cartridge? I regularly clean the stylus with Audio Technica stylus fluid and its brush. I never hear this distortion on new LPs.
Is LP distortion the record or the cartridge? The cartridge probably has about 2000 hours on it.I am only getting that distortion on old and, probably, worn records.
By far, my most significant system upgrade! Also please note that the bi wires are $175 not $275!Jeff has created an innovative kind of jumper that, in a loop, connects to both sets of binding posts instead of a jumper that connects to one pair of binding posts and jumps to the second pair....
By far, my most significant system upgrade! Sorry Jeff Smith!LPs that were truly unlistenable are now, not transformed into great recordings, but highly listenable. Inner detail and musical tone is now beautiful giving breath and depth formerly hidden. And good recordings are now spooky good...
Intimate, warm and holographic alternative Juan,What is your actual budget. Your suggested speakers are all lower price relatively. It is surely important to hear speakers before you buy. This seems problematic. It is also important to hear a complete system in your space.Building a system ... |
