Most organic / real / analogue sounding DAC (ideally with Volume Control) for $1500??????
I believe you are better off with the DAC preamp approach. What is budget for the preamp? What amp are you using?
CD Transport VS Streamer
I took interest in your thread due to owning a CXC. The tone control issue is funny. I can understand how that could happen. Do you listen at somewhat low volume levels? The boosted highs and lows would be most beneficial at lower levels, like a l...
CD Players as transports for Schiit Gungnir Multibit
I own the Cambridge CXC transport an find it to be a high value product. There are better transports, however at many times the price.
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
So you are still waiting for the Salks? I am waiting to hear what you think of them. Given the low ceilings I like the idea of using monitors on short stands, maybe 16" - 20". Also play with tilt. I am using 16" stands with my Esoteric MG10s which...
2020 quest for stereo amp with DAC for about 1000 USD
I once owned a Vincent SV 226MK integrated. It is line level, lacking phonostage and DAC and delivered 100wpc. Very smooth sounding and dynamic. I think the Vincent SV500 would be a good choice. I believe you would still need a streamer.
Technical Question - Tube Preamp
I have used a Mac Mini into a Bryston BDA-1 DAC with a Jolida tube pre and now a Aric Audio tube pre. I believe using a tube pre will benefit your system. Improvements in soundstage width and depth, immage specificity, and timbre.
Best route to go for new dac?
Check out the Jolida/Black Ice tube DAC.

You should add the Yamaha 801 to your list. I have used one to drive B&W 685s andCM5s.

Why not wait for the Salks.
Yamaha A-S801 for Dynaudio Evoke 20
I thought I responded earlier. Must not have posted. I believe the 801 has a better DAC, also has USB input. I believe the 801 would provide you with greater flexibility.
Is there a magic formula for spending on components in a system
Ha, +1 Al, a great response which fell within the 3 minutes of my two responses.
Is there a magic formula for spending on components in a system
OK, a possible formula given a digital system:Source - 20 to 25%Amplification - 25 to 35%Speakers - 25 to 45%Cables - 10 - 15%Summation of the mid value of each components class = 100%
Is there a magic formula for spending on components in a system
I believe the allotment of funds across components differs with budget. For instance, if budget is $1000 than it might prove best to invest more on both the integrated amplifier and the source component than the speakers. However, as the budget i...
New speakers for turntable ($500 range)
You have received, and seem to be taking, great advise. With a $600 budget I would consider the Wharfedale Diamond offered by Music Direct at $199 and the Denon or possibly the Yamaha A-S301 which can be had for $350. Buy some Monoprice 12ga in wa...
Yamaha A-S801 for Dynaudio Evoke 20
Yes, best to test with the speakers of choice. I am a fan of Dynaudio 2-ways. Were you interested in the Yamaha for the phonostage and DAC?
