Which stereo amp to try under $30k
Ordered the Boulder 1160. Likely getting a Boulder pre-amp as well to replace the Ref 6 (though it's a pretty great pre-amp already). That would leave me with Boulder Phono, Pre, and Power, and a dCS DAC. Am I done upgrading? Probably not. Speaker...

Which stereo amp to try under $30k

@varyat how? This has been my problem. There is only one shop that's willing to let me hear in my home, and they only carry a few brands. I'm not going to buy without hearing it.
c2600 vs c52 for mc452
I had a C47 and when I finally switched to a Audio Research Reference 6 tube preamp I realized how much more my MC452 has to give. My suggestion is either the C2600 or a different brand solid state preamp. I’ve been underwhelmed by the midrange Ma...

Demoing then Boulder 1160 on Thursday in my system. If I like it, I’lol probably pull the trigger on the matching preamp too.

Agreed. I’ve discounted the 160S for just that reason and will also likely replace the Ref 6 with the Boulder 1110.
Lumin X1 or dCS Bartok
The reviews of the Bartok and my experience would lead me to suggest you hear them. You’d be hard pressed to find a bad word written about the dCS.
Lumin X1 or dCS Bartok
Interesting about the Dave. I have the Hugo 2 (along with the mentioned Mytek Manhattan II, dCS Rossini, Mytek Brooklyn DAC+, and a Violectric DAC). To me, the dCS is by far the most natural. The Mytek overemphasis on highs becomes tiring. That sa...
Lumin X1 or dCS Bartok
Right, I think I missed a word in there. The dCS approach really takes the edge off, but to be clear, both sound wonderful. That said, I can't think why I'd want to spend 10k on an ESS-based DAC when there are so many wonderful options, like the M...
Lumin X1 or dCS Bartok
Listening to the Rossini right now, which has similar character to the Bartok. I came from a Mytek Manhattan II which is based on the ESS Pro. All I can say is it’s not even close between those two. The dCS has this smooth, natural presentation wi...
Phono Pre Upgrade from Parasound JC-3?
I think the Luxman EQ-500 is near your budget. Also, if you don’t need much adjustability, the Boulder 508 is astonishingly transparent. I have one and couldn’t be happier. Find your warmth in the amp or line stage not the phono pre.
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
I thought I replied as asked. I said $35k. That said, I suspect the $13.5k dCS Bartok would rival it as well. Sound the same, no, of course not. Sound equally awesome in a different way, yes!
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
I had a 1k TT and a 1K DAC and the TT always won. I moved up to a 6k TT and 6K DAC. The TT usually won. Now with a 35k DAC and 35K TT setup and I think the DAC finally has the edge but only on things that had good digital copies (many 60s recordin...
