SET Lovers, what's the one solid state amp you love(d)?
I am yet to hear a Class D amp that does not sound rhythmically and musically disjointed Low distortion is the exact opposite of “disjointed”. Go figure! Who is right a guy or what others hear as good with numbers to back it up? I have 4 dif...
This e-mail has been cryogenically treated
@erik_squires I’m pretty certain you know the answer is that nobody knows anything claimed about any product unless they can verify it themselves somehow. You are operating on pure trust otherwise. So be sure as always to do your homework and know...
What is the appeal of the Denon 103 cartridges?
Pretty simple. They can sound absolutely fantastic when set up right and shouldn't break the bank. Been through many carts in my day but discovered the dl103r a good while back finally and it still thrills and captivates years later.
The Symphony of the Audiophile: How Do You Define Enjoyment in Sound?
It's a karma thing.
The Symphony of the Audiophile: How Do You Define Enjoyment in Sound?
My goal is to hear it all.   You never know what sonic pleasures might be up ahead.  Then you get to revisit the special moments as you please for reasons that only matter to you at the moment.   Home hifis bring the musical pulse of the world aro...
Baltimore MD
There is a group in DC area I believe.  Agoner @lancelock  might know more.  I'm still kicking in NW Baltimore County and always interested in talking hifi and music.
Multiple audio systems in different rooms; how to link them with streaming gear?
I also do it with Roon and WiFi extenders where needed. Works great!
What's the point of reviewing?
The trick is that one must be able to take all the information available for a product and synthesize that information to derive conclusions that have a good probability of panning out. Not always an easy task. Much easier to just take advice from...
What's the point of reviewing?
@mahgister is right. There is strength in numbers. Many people drawing similar conclusions and representing a decent random sample is the secret sauce. Or even just several knowledgeable sources might do it.
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
It’s apparent when one reads threads like this that everyone has an opinion but only some have science and facts to actually backup their opinions. That’s just the way it is but my only suggestion would be everyone is always best served by at lea...
Should I steer clear of class D amps
Stereophile just released a review of the new HiFi Rose GaN Class D integrated that concluded the sound was essentially flawless and the value hard to beat. Not to mention the good looks! Just saying….
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps?
The correct answer as is often the case is “it depends”. It depends on the overall design of the amp, the speakers used with, how loud one wants to go, how big a room, how far away from the speakers, and yes even the kind of music and recording be...
Should I steer clear of class D amps
+1 @atmasphere and yes Class D can drive most any speaker well so best of both worlds there.     These are two key factors that have kept me firmly planted in Class D amp land for a number of years now.
Cambridge Audio EDGE Electronics
Haven’t heard Edge but I have Cambridge Evo 150 that is a fine sounding unit so would expect even more from pricier Edge.
Can a system sound too Holographic?
For all the mbl fans out there these days they have a pair of standmounts that the magazines recently raved about for only ~ 22K. Probably all one needs in most rooms. That is a tad less than a pair of new KEF Blade metas.   These two are probab...
