Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Yes, if not mentioned earlier in this thread, definitely do not use most power conditioners/regeneraters, etc. with power amps. They will become a bottleneck in regards to delivering power and current needed. Pre-amps, source devices, etc., have a...
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall
Audio Research is great stuff. Even their lest expensive models are very good. If one can afford it, I can can think of worse ways to spend ones money. if something cost a lot of money, it needs to deliver the goods. ARC does.Boulder, not as sure ...
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall
Someone's gotta buy this stuff first, right, else no used discounts?See, there IS a unique and rightful place for rich audiophiles in this world after all, to buy fist and help out all us poorer folk. Kinda like an audiofile welfare system.....
What Does Holographic Sound Like?
I called this first earlier in this thread as having a better chance of being true than certain esoteric tweak related claims, based on scientific evidence, and got mocked :-)We May Be Martians
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
If it ain't broken.......
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
Mgeorge,I would see no issue with the Krell and Geoldenears. Powerwise, its probably overkill, if anything. Nothing wrong with that. Its more how does it sound to you and what if anything different or better are you looking for with the sound?
Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore.
Porter Wagoner was pushing 80 when he did Wagonmaster, and he could still sing pretty well but voice was not what it used to be. Worked well for that album.Lots of classic rockers still out there singing with success, but there can't be many more ...
Food or beryllium tweeters for my DeCapo's
Modern OHMs and 80's OHMs are two different beasts, though they look similar. I owned both concurrently for a bit and did a lot of a/b comparisions. Night and day performance differences all around, though both share the ability to go loud and cle...
Can you identify this piece for me? classical musi
BTW Shazam app is a wonderful tool for identifying music when heard, but results for a lot of classical music with it are not always as reliable.
Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore.
Sorry to hear. When she was good, she was very good, one of my favorites. Powerful voice and ability to convey emotion and subtleties to boot.
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
I glanced at impedance/phase measurements for the GEs from Stereophile review. Issues present appear to be in teh midrange more than bass. IT appears relatively tube friendly, but different amps might sound much different in midrange, depending. T...
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
Also I have not seen impedance curve metrics for those Goldenears, but, from what I read and having heard them, I would be willing to bet that they might be a challenge for many amps, cettainly many tube, even some SS, to drive well. It would be w...
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
My guess also is that GOldenears are not designed mainly to be run off a tube amp, though on paper I would expect that many larger, better tube amps might do quite well. A good SS amp is probably a safer bet in general with those. Tha might explai...
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
I find the best SS and tube setups sound more alike than different to me. The end results/overall synergy of components working together in your room is all that matters. If you like the SS sound, then it is possible that tubes may not do much for ...
Food or beryllium tweeters for my DeCapo's
Tube, take note of what specific model those OHM Walsh speakers are when you hear them. Many since inception back in early eighties look the same but do not sound the same. Sound became cleaner, more refined and detailed over time with different g...
