Calling all Horn lovers
Duke,I heard some of the bigger better CAR speakers at CAF 2012, with the field coil drivers as well, I think. Very nice, though the room was way too small to do full justice I am sure.Your AK speakers are high on my want to hear list, but has not...
Tubes vs Solid State - Imaging, Soundstaging, 3D
" In my experience solid-state amplifiers have the tendency to grab and hold my attention for longer than tubes do. I think this is because I visually listen to the music and am constantly trying to figure out where a guitarist is standing, how cl...
Telarc 1812 revisited
This one is a forgotten classic and features spoken commentary explaining how the actual ordinance used was set up and recorded. I suppose people actually cared about such things in their recordings back in this one's day (1958 I believe). Vinyl w...

Tubes vs Solid State - Imaging, Soundstaging, 3D
Dynamic range compression devices like the old DBXs used to be popular to produce similar effects in particular at lower volumes with higher noise floor off of typical SS.i would think a SS amp could go for a higher noise floor and similar dynamic...
Tubes vs Solid State - Imaging, Soundstaging, 3D
I suspect our ears "dynamic level response" characteristics are not linear and are not able to detect subtle loudness differences at very low volumes as well as at louder volumes in general, so higher volume levels on average in general associated...
Best Speakers You Have Ever Heard In Your Home
Current OHM 5 series 3.
Have you gotten great sound in a small er room?
I have very good success in my 12X12 room using corner approach as described above + assymetrical and fairly wide placement of speakers relative to the corner. Works very well with both my smaller OHM omnis and Dynaudio Contour monitors.

Replacement for Squeezebox Touch?
Logitech may yet come back around again and offer a wireless device suitable for use with hi fis like SB that uses their newer server software. Old LMS software used with SB was getting cluttered and problematic to maintain I think. Their new radi...
Tube Amps and Friendly Speakers - Back Impedance
One review I read indicated Daedulus were champs in the "tonality" dept. at RMAF. Probably not a coincidence...Speakers are kind of like wind socks and amps like the wind. The wind has to deliver enough air to keep the thing properly inflated. Rea...
Tube Amps and Friendly Speakers - Back Impedance
Which comes first, the speakers or the amp? :^)Guess which way amp makers tend to lean? And those who make speakers? The rest of us are more "moderate" and less extreme in our leanings I suppose.I am more in the "speakers" first camp. Just make sure...
How to meaningfully audition speakers??
Wolf, you get your choice of who is in your corner: 1) me or 2) Kate Upton. I know this is a very "difficult" choice.....

"In my experience, good engineering is a necessary starting point but what distinguishes a good from a great sounding component is the musical sensitivity of its designer."Based on my experiences, I think there is a lot of truth to that when appli...
