tube amps and electrostatics
I have never heard quad esls have a dynamic low end like is possible with good full range dynamic speakers. I always figured that to be their inherent achilles heel, as is the case with planars generally. Have not compared with a good beefy SS amp...
tube amps and electrostatics
Ive heard quad esl of cj tube amp. Very nice match!
Happy music...
Surf guitar music, beach boys, b52s, leroy anderson, beatles/mccartney, vintage chet atkins, buck owens, a lot of 50s and early 60s pop hits, before kennedy, vietnam, watergate, etc. When things got heavier. Go to allmusic. Com and check out music...

YEs, and most modern high quality speakers that are not large and use porting and other methods to deliver extended low end bass response out of a smaller package, as is popular with most these days, ARE difficult loads, even quality small monitor...
Where do the tubes go?
No stereo component functions alone, or at its best with just any others, so always best to consider the key component inter dependencies, especially when dealing with SS versus tube based gear. Assuming you have a good system already, and are loo...

Cdc,The specs on the full range speakers you use indicate response down to only 125hz. I suspect most any good quality amp should be able to do a good job with those. The biggest, clearest challenges where power paradigm comes into play is general...

"What is voltage good for? It seems like a cheap way make the amp appear to be powerful when reading the specs."Obviously, there can be no power without voltage, but with home hifi, not all watts are created equally. True powerhouse amps are eithe...
What has the same sound as Ref. 3a ?
Saki, what amp are you using?
What has the same sound as Ref. 3a ?
I have not heard the Ref 3As, but from what I have read, Triangle or Focal speakers might deliver similarly good performance overall with similar gear, though I would expect some significant difference perhaps in overall tonality. Triangle and Ref...

I ran a high power/low current Carver m4.0t transfer function amp for years. It did in fact work best and quite well overall with more "power paradigm" friendly speakers I owned concurrently, specifically Magnepan and Triangle. Though at 360 w/ch ...
Worlds best DAC
"I heard that the Trinty Dac costs $52K!"Just for comparison, that's almost 132X as much as I payed for my mhdt Constantine, which I am very satisfied with.It had best sound really good! :^)
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Tweaking is key to getting things right with any setup, including with OHMS.In general, less separation between speakers and/or distance from rear wall helps with center imaging.Imaging and soundstage with OHM omnis is significantly different than...
solid state amp for merlin tsm's ?
My mistake. I was reading 100 hz, not 100khz. 100khz does not come up very often in most home audio discussions. Not sure exactly how to determine for sure when a zobel network is or is not used in an amp. Do specs indicate this somehow? I've read ...
Worlds best DAC
Hmm, I could probably make some of the same statements about the $350 used mhdt Constantine DAC I use currently as is made about the Trinity DAC at that link.Funny how the one guy condemns the craziness of high end audio then claims to have found ...
How does relative humidity affect our music?
Krell, Tweaking speaker location even just slightly, or even possibly toeing in tweets towards listening position, might be easy ways to adjust the tonal balance as needed if not spot on as desired normally for whatever reason, humidity or otherwi...
