Who do you trust?
I trust my dog.He is trustworthy and loyal and has good hearing. He sits and listens with me and his ears twitch in synch to the music when things are going well.Plus he bears a strong resemblance to Nipper. :-)
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Also I wonder what the song was? If a chamber work, probably not a big challenge. If a symphony, Rush, Metallica, or a well recorded big band, I wonder if outcome would be the same?

Rebbi,What speakers was that guy using? Decapos as well?
Audio Research preamp ratings & sound differences
I agree with EBM.When in doubt just determine your budget and needs, and jump on ARC. Its hard to go wrong.
Who do you trust?
Here's another good question from a guy a lot of folks would trust:Cash: What Is Truth?
Who do you trust?
Azjake,If you like pop contact me privately here on Agon and I would be glad to share the ids of some folks here that I have come to trust. I doubt there would be many surprises though for those who have hung around these parts for awhile.
Who do you trust?
Usually, I think we tend to trust those who see things similarly to us over the long haul the most. Can't have trust without some common basis. For audio, for me, it might comedown to trusting someone who seems to hear the same things I do in gener...

"In the face of Mapman's rule of thumb, all of our preamps work fine with 10K amplifier inputs no worries."Fine is fine, but not necessarily best."Best" is even a subjective judgement. May or may not be based on anything quantitative.Just saying. ...
Do I really need a preamp?
Its all about synergy as usual I think. Passives make sense to me if properly mated to suitable sources electronically. That might even be one of the best ways to go if done right, at least from the "purist" point of view, a simple signal path tha...
What is better 1 bigger sub or 2 small ones
As with most things...it depends.Good larger subs generally go lower with flatter frequency response. A single sub will sound more different in different parts of the room in many cases, so there is more of a sweet spot. Two subs enable more balan...
Classical, Spanish & South American Guitar Jewels
"Gentleman" Jim Reeves. We need more of those these days. If they can sing too, then wow.
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
Phd, one other point worth mentioning, nothing too far out there, is that most of the music you identified is meant to be played loud. When music is played loud, the first thing to be sure to have a handle on is amplifier clipping. Amps get stress...
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
Skynrd recordings I am familiar with are pretty good. VH in my collection often has highly compressed dynamics. I am often but not always disappointed in the recording quality. But metal recordings often are what they are. MEtallica tends to do a ...
Speakers for High-End Digital Piano
Maybe the active pro monitors just needed to be bigger? Those brands are popular for your application.
Is DEQX a game changer?
Al,I will stay tuned. I'm very interested in your finding as I'm sure are many here. Not to make more work for you, but I would be very interested to understand the effects of DEQX on various speakers of various designs, in a sense as a potential o...
