What's the greatest bargain in SET these days? Schubert, teh other sonic distinction would be between newer more rectangular cabinets with built in plinth below and older cabinets with sloped sides and no plinth. The vertical Walsh style driver and bottom port result in a lot of bass energy in...
AV Receivers not using Class D or Ice amplifiers Thanks.NExt I wonder how the competing non Class Ds compare to the Pioneer ELite models these days?
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls? How about the Manger drivers? They are pretty unique. Have always wanted to hear but not very commonly found in these parts.
Tube Preamp vs Solid State I am in GEorgelofi's camp these days and like to keep things simple. If you have enough gain, and a volume control, no need for any pre-amp other than as a potentially expensive (and inflexible) signal processor.I am looking to try and dump all my...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls? There is a reason why single driver speakers are a niche market, at least for hifi systems. TEchnology has probably improved but again those darn laws of physics just stand in the way. HEnce the proliferation of other designs.Midrange is where mos...
AV Receivers not using Class D or Ice amplifiers Which ones use Class D?
Directional speaker cables - switching direction My wife tells me to turn down my music but does not mind her's at the same level so go figure.
Tube Preamp vs Solid State A tube here or there or more is just one way to tweak, depending on goals. Common benefits and issues are well documented. No two units sound the same, SS or tube, so expect variability always depending on choices. Some SS gear is designed to sound...
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days? Assuming a good fit into the room, perhaps some low end extension, but I would not expect much of a difference if integrated well into the right size room. If so, a sub or two could close the gap.The OHM Walshes of a particular vintage (currently ...
7.1 or 5.1 Most SOTA movieplexes these days have the largest multi-channel formats for sound available. Go listen to a good one and hear for yourself. Of course when scaled down to the size of most home theater rooms, teh benefits become much more marginal.
Using dBpoweramp Another way to look at it is that CD defects have much less impact ripping with DBpoweramp compared to scratches or other defects on a vinyl LP. I've ripped thousands of CDs and can only cite one or two cases where the ripped files (often from CDs...
Using dBpoweramp Rocky, if a track you really want for whatever reason (for me often to just have all tracks in a release) you can set the bypass in the options after and just rerip the bad tracks to get the best results possible without prolonged rereads/waiting....
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days? REbbi, Reading your historical info on teh blog, it may have been covered back then, don't recall but your Class D amp had only 10000K input impedance which is minimal and far from optimal for use with a tube pre-amp. FWWW, I'd be willing to bet i...
DAC improvements slowing down? Low jitter is worth it. Many ways to achieve that these days for reasonable cost if done right. Has probably only gotten to that point in recent years, so older gear in general will tend to be more problematic.
Hall of Fame: BIGGEST BADDEST Monster Amps I'll nominate the Bel Canto ef1000m amps I use. 500w/ch into 8 ohm and doubles down to 4ohm. Very efficient, small and light as well, so not so "big but a powerful yet efficient monster power amp in a compact package courtesy of modern Class D amp... |
