What cables are you running with your ARC gear The sp16 does not have balanced inputs or outputs. A lot of ARC gear does. If mine did, I would lean towards using that.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive? Schubert nailed this one!
Concerns purchasing Vintage System? You won't know what it is really worth until assessed properly. If there are problems, most can probably be addressed properly in that that the companies are mostly still around. The Tandberg is a fantastic piece but likely the most problematic, bu...
Have your standards/taste in music changed? Yes. I listen to everything I can now and find something to like most of the time. I can't wait to hear what I might hear next. It's all very tasty!
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better? "Absolutely Whart, getting a very clear midrange that also is grain free, well, the only way is low distortion. ""Poor" recordings are often have a lot more energy in the midrange compared to "higher quality" more extended ones. So getting a handl...
What cables are you running with your ARC gear I run DNM Reson analog ICs from all sources into ARC sp16 pre-amp and out to power amp. ARC + DNM is excellent for overall tonality, coherence and detail for modest cost.
Concerns purchasing Vintage System? "What should I be worried about?"Going in, pretty much everything. That stuff is good but old. You'll have to assess it piece by piece. The actual value could vary widely depending on condition.

To fix or not to fix I'd say when the old CD playing gear finally breaks, its the perfect time to start a computer based music server as a replacement. That's where its all heading. I personally would not invest anything in any high end CD player anymore these days.
New Speaker Stands? I just picked up a pair for my Triangle Titus XL monitors. There is nothing floating about them. Just a nice ergonomic design for use with small monitors. Looking like a perfect solution for the Triangles sitting just off the floor with a slight u...
Does JBL get a bad rap? Mik, that was before my time. I was in New Brunswick NJ store circa 1978.
Fuses that matter. There is a difference between theoretic models, even if 100% precise, and mattering.Just saying...
Fuses that matter. Jazz,I have no doubt anything different can make a difference. Caps, wires, fuses, not exactly apples/apples. The question is always how much, how significant, how much it matters, etc. Lots of things add up to a good design and good performance. ... |
