why is it that on some records, sound terrible??
Could be cartridge alignment. When I align mine, using the Linn template, I check the alignment both at both outer rim and interior to get it right.Another common snafu is dirt/dust can accumulate on the stylus as the record plays, particularly if...
How did you choose your equipment?
Elizabeth,The only problem with your chicken---- approach is that I think chickens hear differently than people and more like turkeys!
mixing and matching.....
Three words:Synergy, synergy, synergy.ALl components involved in listening must have synergy together, including the room and your ears. You can buy it from a single manufacturer if you find it or you can create it yourself by mixing and matching, ...
Suggestions Please
One more:A lot of Jim Capaldi's solo work post-Traffic is exceptional. This was an extremely talented little known, and much under appreciated solo artist."Electric Nights" is one of my all time favorites. The second side of this album is beautifu...
How did you choose your equipment?
I flip a coin.Just kidding.Actually, I do a lot of research for equipment that meets my requirements. I look for equipment that garners consistent commentary in reviews and research the technology utilized. Then I create a shortlist and look for b...
Best Fragile CD
The common 2003 issued remastered CD version is quite good.

Speakers and Tube Amps
In that case, the Classic Audio Reproductions Atmasphere likes with his amps would be one I would consider were it me.
Speakers and Tube Amps
Mmike84,If you like your current system, particularly speakers, but want to add some tube "flavor", easier to do it with a tube DAC for digital sources only or a tube pre-amp for multiple sources.
some 70's and 80's receivers seem to be popular
Sprink,For a better sound investment, if you have a CD player with digital output already, just add a separate tube DAC rather than invest in a tubed CD player.
some 70's and 80's receivers seem to be popular
"Would that be a cool second rig?"Yes.
some 70's and 80's receivers seem to be popular
I use the Yamaha CR-420 in my two channel A/V system. It sounds tremendous and stacks up very well to more modern amplifiers I would say. The phono section is one of the best I've ever owned with a MM phono cartridge, easily as good the the Tandbe...
