Ever discover cheapo speakers actually sound...
I currently have weather-worn Realistic Minimus 7's ($100 retail back in the 1980's) on my deck that sound fantastic these days with my current system....leaps and bounds beyond what they sounded like with much lesser gear that I have used them wi...
Ever discover cheapo speakers actually sound...
If it was not clear distortion or similar noise you heard early on, its possible that the speakers just sounded better after a while because your ears adjusted to the different sound.I'd like to see a picture of your entire listening room, but I'm...
Ever discover cheapo speakers actually sound...
Two different speakers in different price classes can be "night and day" but still each sound good in their own way. The less expensive speakers should likely have more limitations but they can still sound "good" and do the things they do well.Ped...

dbx with turntable is a common application. You need to adjust the threshold properly and not apply too much expansion. Adjust the levels properly and the results should be very positive, adding more lifelike dynamic impact and attack to the record...

" it sounds awfully good to me right now"That's all that matters.A lot of sonic magic in particular with acoustic music happens with phono in my setup as well.I have a new Audio Research sp 16 tube pre-amp with phono stage coming in a week or so. ...

Another option to at least be aware of is Roku Soundbridge (which has volume control) with separate DAC connected to CDs ripped to a music server via WiFi.

Rebbi,A device with a name like "Bottlehead Seduction" has to sound great!Seriously, glad your experiencing some magic moments! We had a bunch of people over yesterday and I had to push the big Ohm 5's only 6 inches or so from the rear wall and hav...
