Krell FPB 300cx vs Jeff Rowland 501's?
FWIW, soundwise, I'm thinking its more a lateral move albeit an energy efficient one with a bit more power. Might open up dynamics a bit and go a bit louder. I'd expect the Rowland to be a bit smoother though if the current setup has an edge to it...
How to reproduce sound of piano
Try staying in stereo but moving the speakers closer together than you might otherwise to better represent the actual width of the recorded piano.Just another idea...
Newbie Setup Question - Digital
I would expect the software driver used with a particular USB device could make a difference in sound.I 've heard others indicate that different USB cables make a difference as well, but I have difficulty understanding how different digital cables...
RIP Eartha Kitt
I remember her as "Catwoman" also and of course from "Santa Baby" which still gets a lot of airplay this time of year.Ironically, I just picked up her "Collection" CD at the library the other day for my wife. "Santa Baby" is her favorite Xmas Song!
Reason for buying old/classic turntables
For me, as someone who wants to spend time listening to music rather than mucking with equipment, when the time comes to replace my current Linn table (hopefully not for another 20 years), I would look at new tables first to see what I might be mi...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"Is there a reason why there is a cover over the drivers?"1) protection2) aesthetics (what's inside sounds great but ain't pretty)

It depends on whether what's happening below 20hz is related more to the music or noise. Best to eliminate the noise first if possible.

"I believe that all LP systems would benefit from 20z (subsonic filtering)"If done right, I would tend to agree.
good sounding cd's
Fogerty's "Blue Moon Swamp", at least the later release with two bonus tracks, has top notch sound quality as good as I've heard on a pop/rock CD and the music is absolutely fantastic from start to finish. A true gem of a CD recording! I just list...
Benchmark DAC1 Pre vs. Bel Canto DAC3
Imaginary,The "Windows Media Sharing" feature of Windows Media Player has to be enabled to allow other network devices, like the Roku or a Squeezebox, to share media files, including music files.A DAC connected physically via USB does not communic...
Oversampling DAC Vs. Non Oversampling?
I wouldn't worry about oversampling or not. I'd chose the DAC based on accounts of how it actually sounds and how the sound will mesh with the rest of your system, not make oversampling or no a determining factor. Each DAC will sound different and...
Benchmark DAC1 Pre vs. Bel Canto DAC3
To enable it to work as a server using a device like the Roku as the remote controller, yes, there was a configuration parameter that had to be set (i'll check the name and get back on that) but it may be different to control WMP directly on the P...
How to reproduce sound of piano
Hevac1,Listening in mono is an excellent idea also! The mike placement during recording of solo piano pieces varies greatly from recording to recording it seems and is often done for enhancement of stereo effect at cost perhaps of a more natural p...
Benchmark DAC1 Pre vs. Bel Canto DAC3
I use Windows Media Player as the Music Server program. I use loss less .wav file format files ripped to a 300Gb disk on the Toshiba laptop running Vista OS. In my case, the laptop has a wireless (WiFI) connection to a Linksys wireless router run...
