sounstage too big bad thing
A bigger sound stage may require that you listen farther back than usual. When done right and listened to from a location with an amicable perspective, it should be a good thing. There can be more separation between instruments or recording lines ...
How can you tell if a recording is in mono?
If you get different sounds in left versus right, you are getting stereo. The sounds you hear in each is a result of the way the stereo recording was mixed and mastered. It is what it is.When you hit the mono switch, the two channels are merged an...
CD drive improves HD rip quality?
Some drives will have lower error rates than others but it is the drive and ripping software together that matters. Higher error rates off the optical drive will result in re-reads of the same data multiple times and hence longer rip times though ...
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
"Still Life" Van Der Graaf Generator. Lots of low organ notes recorded well in an otherwise sparse mix on tunes like the title track, very rare for rock genre recordings.
Mystical Performances

the most underrated 33 1/3 in history?
"anus of uranus"I think the actual name of the song was "Hanus of Uranus"."Anus" is funnier though and seemed to stick!
Vocalist Height system dependent?
I have not noticed changes in SS height changing components with Either OHMs or Dynaudio monitors. My hypothesis would be that this is due to close vertical proximity of drivers in these specific designs, which closely approximate a point source o...
Vocalist Height system dependent?
Most likely an artifact of your room acoustics and your specific vertical speaker driver configuration within the room.Different wires and even electronics might change the timbre and change the perspective accordingly as SPL levels of the differe...
the most underrated 33 1/3 in history?
I like Klaatu a lot and yes they had a very Beatlesque sound and approach. The production on their first two albums perhaps even set a new bar at the time in terms of musical ambition and even results for their genre of music. They also had a knac...
Shahinian and Ohm
BTW Shahinian and OHM are both omnidirectional but the drivers and design approach are very different. I think I recall Shahinian uses multiple drivers with variying orientation for a particular frequency range while OHM uses a single omnidirectio...
best WOOFER ???
How do the latest field coil woofers, like those used in some Shindo speakers, compare?

Bass, more or less?
It can be the hardest thing to get right, but you do need to match, tweak and tune a system until the bass is just right otherwise nothing will sound good in my experience.
Some irrefutable truths about rock and roll
There is lots of good music always out there.Irrefutable truths require factual data to back them up though, otherwise they are just opinions, to which all are entitled. There can only be one "best" of anything.Best song? I won't even attempt to g...
Shahinian and Ohm
100 watts/ch should work well.Go for high current, doubling as much as possible from 8 to 4 and 2 ohms for better results and a low end with more weight and balance at lower to moderate listening volumes though.
