Marty,Was "Oh Well" the Peter Green tune performed? That would be my pick!
Are Harbeths really "all that?"
"All have the refined sound you expect from an English monitor.""Refined" is an accurate and useful description for many high end audio components, in particular speakers, that come out of Britain I have found. I'd toss DNM Reson ICs into that cat...
Are Harbeths really "all that?"
Funny Bozaks are mentioned.I actually got to hear a pair of BIG, old Bozaks in good operating condition the other day at a local dealer who had taken in a pair in a trade. They were "sweet to the ear" indeed, but the dealer thought they were color...
Ohm FRS-15 v. Ohm Walsh 2
Texas42,I have F5 S3s (5S3 drivers in F cabinets) and Walsh 2S3. I owned original Walsh 2's prior for about 25 years. In smaller rooms, I have found there is little or no advantage of larger OHMs over smaller. In larger rooms, larger OHMs have bene...

"listening fatigue is very low"I always liked Maggies largely for exactly this reason. I owned them for years and they were fantastic for extended listening sessions with no fatigue. When they were tuned in, they always sounded better the more you ...
Pick 2... Ohm WMT,ML Source,Zu Druid,Gallo Ref 3.1
The OHMs and Gallos are the two that will probably sound most similar. IMHO, the OHMs are superior. They are more like Quad Electrostats but with more dynamics and bass. The Gallos have the dynamics and bass but do not compare to Quads (I've heard...
Ohm FRS-15 v. Ohm Walsh 2
FRS speakers were part of OHMs line I believe back in the late 80's and early 90's. I believe they use the same CLS drivers as OHMs Walsh branded speakers, like the Walsh 2, 4, 5, etc., and can be upgraded similarly to newer OHM CLS drivers like t...
Are Harbeths really "all that?"
Harbeths do present a relatively high input impedance though I think which would make them natural mates with tube and other SS amps that may not deliver a lot of juice compared to others. That is other end of the spectrum from speaks like Dynaudi...
Are Harbeths really "all that?"
When I look at them, driver configuration, cabinet size, etc., I have trouble reconciling the price with what I see. I suspect its a boutique type sound that some will love and not be able to live without. But the fact is I have never heard them. ...
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
Power conditioning tweaks might be measured objectively as well. It would require a sound spectrum analyzer with very high resolution and digital measurement and comparison of the signal levels for a test recording both before and after conditioning.
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
For tweaks that filter out external vibrations, it would be cool if there were a gadget that could measure the vibration levels a component is subjected to both before and after tweak. That would settle the issue of whether that particular tweak w...
What would happen if we had convenient turntables
BTW Thorens used to sell an arm lift device for less than $20 that mounts easily to most any table. I use it on my Linn Axis and it has worked for almost 30 years now without fail. You can see it in the picture of the Linn Axis in my system if you...

I may check out one of those Duals when the time comes to replace what I have.My almost 30 year old Dual 1264 fully automatic sounds better than ever these days running on an equally old Yamaha cr-640 receiver into Triangle Titus speaks and M&...
I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
"That's not to say that any particular tweak that *claims* to achieve these goals actually does. Many/most of them do not. But a few may, and that is what we are looking for."Or they may, but in some cases the potential problem may not in fact rea...
What do you see as the downside of tubes?
Atmasphere,Are those things inherent in all tubes versus all transistors, or just more common in practice? Also, if inherent, technically what is different that accounts for these differences?
