Pioneer House Sound from the 70s
Apples/oranges.May I ask what the special appeal of the "Pioneer sound" in the 70's is?I sold Pioneer and other brands back then. The Pioneers were the Toyota's or Honda's of the time. Solid performers but nothing special Toyota's and Honda's have...

If forgiving equates to non-fatiguing, I would agree.OHM walsh speakers are more etched these days with the newer drivers though than their vintage ancestors. There may be more etched systems out there but I have not heard any that are more so the...
Experienced audiophiles best speaker
YEs, the mini does not plumb the depths like many speakers in that price category. OTher than that though, they were hard to fault when I heard them (twice). For smaller rooms or tight quarters, they are one of the best for sure, however, I suspect...

They are good!Perhaps not the nth degree in detail compared to the others, but otherwise extremely good and hard to fault. Driven optimally and set up well as I heard them, they are in the same league perhaps but more like the Reds or Twins perhap...

I will agree that these recordings often sound bad even on some really good setups, but I can't agree that that is necessarily always the case. My current system disproves that. Before my last upgrade adding the Bel Canto ref100m amps, I might have...

The best I have heard recently that I found hard to fault are OHM, mbl, Magico mini, and custom GOTO horns. I've heard some PSB Synchrony and Quad ESL speakers that were up there as well.

Those recordings should sound best when played loud. They should ROCK because they are classic ROCK recordings. They are not Mozart sonatas. They have sufficient detail and resolution to accomplish what they are quite well. Imaging is not an issue...

Shostokovich shuffle? yeah baby!Is that on thisShostokovich Jazz?
The CD player is dead.......
Now today for example, it was very nice listening to Mozart piano sonatas and then adding the Beethoven Pastoral Symphony while sitting in my chair in my bigger listening room and not having to get up and go into the next room to change things.I u...

I would find the jukebox like convenience features of a music server less valuable I think if I listened only to classical music where compositions are often longer and consist of multiple parts that have to be listened to in sequence compared to ...

"If Led Zeppelin sounds good on an audiophile system, then it's not an audiophile system in the common definition of an audiophile system.""Good" is subjective.LZ sounds good on my system these days.Has not always been the case though. It has not ...
Digital Amps vs Solid State Amps
What Tvad said. Either can be top notch. Personal preference in sound is a factor. Also make sure the amp is capable of driving the speakers to the max. For many less efficient designs, Cladd D and IcePower in particular will do this more cost eff...

"If you want to listen to 70s rock recordings, you're better off with a less resolving vintage stereo system, IMO."Hmm, can't agree with that logic.I listen to a lot of that stuff on cd, remastered and otherwise, and it is most enjoyable, the best...
Biggest Baddest Audio Cables
Not DNM Reson. These may never come out of my system and are the exact opposite of what you seek.

Detail and warmth are not mutually exclusive. Its not a contest. I like systems with both best. In fact I like systems that do it all best, but others can still be listenable.
