Looking for warm sounding speakers
Dynaudio is worth auditioning if you must. Just a touch to the warm side of neutral in general.
Why do old tubes sound better than current tubes?
I found this and thought it interesting:NOS

I am a fan of monitors in smaller rooms.I have heard some like Dynaudio and Totem that can also sound very convincing in a larger room, but in general I would go with a larger speaker, monitor or otherwise, in a larger room or else add a sub. Also ...

"a subwoofer, while it might help, is a difficult thing to pull-off well, when it is not part of the overall design of the speaker"True, its up to you and not the speaker designer to pull it off, which is a BIG difference. You just have to trust y...

"Just some thoughts; fire away."Frogman, you've got the passion which is likely 98% of the battle in my mind! Most of the rest doesn't really matter.

BLindjim,Never thought about it but you are right. New old stock sounds like marketing jibberish. Its old, oh but its new! Oh sorry but I meant unused, not new. How do I know it was never used? Well, it reads like new. Yeah right! Funny.I agree tu...

Hard to define thin objectively really. The opposite to a thin sound is one with weight, authority and power behind it, like a big band or symphony orchestra playing full throttle, or even feeling the weight of the synthesized bass in a BEP tunes i...

OK, but not meeting listener expectations does not mean the fundamental design of the speaker is flawed, only that the buyer chose the wrong speaker.I've heard magico mini but never Merlin. Even the mini's sounded "thin" to me on an absolute scale...

I don't view a sub as a band aid. That infers it fixes something that is damaged or defective otherwise. If integrated well with good small monitors in particular, it is there optionally to add something that was not there to start with, and only ...

"panzerholz was chosen for its cost effectiveness"My understanding of that material is quite limited, but by cost effectiveness I do not mean inexpensive but more in regards to overall value compared to using other materials with similar unique ph...

"but if the fundamental design of the speaker is flawed there is only so much a sub can do'It depends on what is meant by "thinness", but thinness can result with a very good monitor that does what it does very well but does not attempt to plumb t...
What makes strings sound "sweet"?
I also heard an expensive system built around Peak Consort speakers at SBS also that was one of the strangest sounding I have heard and a total bust for me. Overemphasized highs and muddy indistinguishable lows. I suspect something in this system ...

" I've bought tubes that are claimed to be NOS from supposedly reputable sellers that test pretty mediocre on a good, modern tube tester (Amplitrex)."So are they real NOS tubes or not? PErhaps NOS tubes are just not always the cats meow? They are ...
