SS amps for merlin vsm
"you don't generally want a tube amp with a "tough" speaker load, for which SS is better suited."Agree with this statement but would add not all SS amps are equal in this regard. SOme will drive "difficult loads" better than others. In general, Cla...
"Kisses on the Bottom" by Paul McCartney
"Neil Young does not belong in the same conversation as McCartney and Dylan."Maybe on the grand scale of things, but certainly an interesting topic for debate.
Preamp Noob has a question
I'd do the pre-amp upgrade and see what that does. That also sets you up down the road for using a dedicated amp rather than integrated amp section, which might also have something to offer. Decent integrateds with pre-amp out and amp in connectio...
Preamp Noob has a question
"I'm looking for that ever elusive extra transparency and detail. Can I get it with a preamp? "No doubt pre-amp can be a factor for this. You'd have to give something a try, but I suspect for under $1000 you can make a difference, with a SS or eve...
Preamp Noob has a question
Gotta know what speakers you are running and what kind of sound improvement you are looking for?
Is the Squeezebox Touch complicated?
Agree with Mlsstl.Overall, I find the Squeeze system to be quite straightforward and reliable, and a fairly mature product, but some comfort level dealing with computer apps is always recommended with these things. Its not nearly as easy as poppin...
Where is the attractive audio furniture?
I got mine at Ethan Allen. Their stuff is usually solidly constructed and most would probably say attractive or stylish.
What do you feel?
Depends on the music.Different for Motorhead than for Tchaikovsky.
are digital recordings on vinyl any better than CD
"To me vinyl makes more sense when you start with an analog recording, analog mastering etc, and hence preserve the essence of 50's, 60's, and 70's recordings that were conceived and produced to be played on TT. "Agree 100%.Those are the vinyl rec...
Dynaudio vs Focal
HAving heard both lines though not in a/b comparison, I suspect they both can deliver top notch sound when set up properly in the right room. I like both very much and could probably live with either. Personal preference and synergy with the rest ...
Replace CAL ICON Mk2?
I had one for many years. It was good for its day. There are many sub $1000 players these days that are way better. Cambridge audio or NAD are safe bets. Even my $600 Denon player/recorder, which succeeded the Cal, was (surprisingly) a step up.
Review: Tube Audio Design Hibachi Monoblocks TAD 125 Amplifier
Whoops, sorry about that. Yes, it's a standard Hibachi TTBOMK which specs at 180 w/ch into 8 ohm. Having run various SS amps over the years in this rig from 80 watts on up to the 500w/ch BCs used currently, the performance I heard was pretty much ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Clean records->excellent tweak!WIth their bottom ports, what the Walshes sit on can make a big difference with how they interact with the room and the resulting sound. I need to try something like that in my tile floor 12X12 sunroom where every...
"Kisses on the Bottom" by Paul McCartney
Ray,THanks for that explanation. I knew there had to be a rational one based on use of language back when that song was written. Much more McCartney-like.
"Kisses on the Bottom" by Paul McCartney
I think that title comes from the lyrics of one of the old standard tunes covered from about 100 years ago.I guess Paul is not feeling the need to be very trendy these days. The modern equivalent would be something along the lines of "Kiss My A--" ...
