Which components are "stupid good"?
I lot of stuff is "stupid good" when set up properly in properly set up and well matched system. The exact same stuff may sound "stupid bad" otherwise.
Squeezebox touch sounds better than benchmark dac1
I have not tried the Touch's built in DAC in my system yet.Its on my list of things to do...
Great films where music is a central theme.
"one Trick Pony" is one I have never seen but need to.
Squeezebox touch sounds better than benchmark dac1
I went with an mhdt Constantine for lower cost than Benchmark a couple of years back and have not looked back. I use it with SB Touch, Roku Soundbridge prior, and my Denon player/recorder on occasion. The sound quality is consistent and absolute to...
The best speaker you ever heard?
In my first real component audio system, I had a pair of Lafayette Criterion short floorstanders with HEil tweeter in an all Lafayette system built around a 40 watt integrated (I worked at Lafayette at the time as a poor college kid and got a good...
Speakers with wide listening window
You can do better than $2K on the OHMs with refurbished older cabinets rather than new. You have to talk to John at OHM to determine if available. You can also trade in up to two pair of old OHMs with refubishable cabinets (driver do not need to wo...

"why should I waste valuable nap time learning modern amp technology when other well trained geniuses are working on these things for me"The only reason would be is that an amp is a component in a component system. In component systems, for best r...

Do you understand your amplifier?
I have a good understanding of why they are good fits into my systems, and I had a decent idea of what to expect they would sound like prior to hearing, but the 80/20 rule is in effect here. You can't know exactly how anything will sound until you...
Does anyone "throw away" Lp's ?
Definitely toss lps in poor condition rather than pass them on. They are worthless unless maybe the cover is in good shape and you want to frame it.
SS amps for merlin vsm
For an integrated in your case, I would want to investigate the Blue Circle option.Or if a pre-amp and mono blocks are an option I'd second the TAD hibachi amp recommendation and pair it with a good pre-amp of your choice.
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
Ballywho,I have some old 78's also that I recorded to CD and then ripped to music server. I bought an old Admiral ceramic cart record player that plays 78's for $10 at a yard sale. Then I used my Denon recorder to burn to CD. Then I ripped to musi...
Tube preamp with the "most" for 1k used, 2k new?
I like the looks of the Joule but have read more good things about the Dehavilland, FWIW. I am not familiar with the Joule sound but the build quality looks pretty good.
