SME 20/12 with V 12 VS Sme 30/2 The latest issue of Absolute Sound has a review of the latest version of the SME 20 Mk3 that states that it is much closer to the sound of the 30 so you might get some ideas from what they changed or even buy the new pieces to upgrade your model. ...
Need tonearm advice for Clearaudio Innovation Wood Whether it is worth it or not is not something I can answer for you. It is worth it for me as it is extremely well built using the best bearings available and a micrometer VTA adjuster that allows easy, repeatable settings of VTA. Now,I dont chang...
Need tonearm advice for Clearaudio Innovation Wood The Audiomods is a bargain at its price and would work well with the Clearaudio. That being said, any of the Clearaudio arms would work well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a unipivot. some of the best arms out there are based on that prin...
Acoustic Signature Calypso/ Rega 301 upgrade path The Audiomods is a compete reconstruction of a Rega 250, a much better starting point than a 300. Everything is replaced or redone except the intregal headshell, which is the best part of the tonearm. It can also be ordered with a micrometer VTA a...
Acoustic Signature Calypso/ Rega 301 upgrade path The Audiomods is an excellent arm, probably the best you can get at the price, that would be a drop in replacement for the Rega. Match it with a Dynavector 17d3, or Lyra Delos and you will be singing away.
What's more important: phono stage or amp I suppose I chose phono preamp from two available choices because I believe that it is harder to deal with small signals and amplify them greatly than to deal with higher level signals which get boosted less. But it is all interrelated, so yes, it...
What's more important: phono stage or amp In my opinion, the phono stage needs to be matched to the cartridge, the amp needs to be matched to the speakers. Two different ends of a continuous process. But would be ok spending more on a phono preamp than an amp.
To SME or not to SME? Sorry, didnt get to the bottom of the thread. Mea Culpa. enjoy.
To SME or not to SME? For about a third the money, you can get a Sota Cosmos that has similar design principals as the SME, is US made, comes in a variety of finishes and will likely sound as good or better than the SME. And they partner well with the SME V that you al...
Are you recording your vinyl? My experience has been that recording vinyl to cd results in a better sounding experience that the commericial CD in most cases. I havent bought a CD this century, but I record my vinyl onto it, then to my Ipod in Apple lossless format. just sound...
Any copyright lawyers lurking? I think it is CDP50, but I will check when I get home tonight.
Any copyright lawyers lurking? the original cd recorders did not have copy guard. I use an older Sony to record my vinyl to for use in the car and to transfer to Itunes and can make as many copies as I like.
Solid State Phono with volume control? numerous full feature preamps with phono, but the GCPH is excellent and can be upgraded if you prefer
Recommendations for Sota Star have a Sumiko Talisman S which I used extensively on my Oracle Delphi II until the cantilever broke. I had it repaired by Soundsmith with their ruby cantilever. It sounds just as good now, or maybe better. I find it to be just a very enjoyable car...
Recommendations for Sota Star I have had good luck with an SME 309 on my Sota Star and Cosmos. I will soon be trying an Audiomods arm, but I can't provide info on that yet. As for a cartridge, the Ortofon 2m Black is excellent for a MM. I use a Dynavector 17d2 for a MC, but I'... |
