Favorite The Empire 208 which was the basis for the VPI Classic; the Sony TTS3000 a superb belt drive and Sony 2250, an original hi end direct drive.
does a stylus retip makea cartridge as good as new I have had a number of cartridges repaired by Soundsmith. They provide 3 levels of cantilevers and different stylus shapes. The basic aluminum cantilever is about what you would expect to find in a $1000 MC cartridge with an elliptical stylus. the...
PSB Stratus Gold upgrade to PSB Synchrony One Thanks, Biz. Just the sort of input I was looking for. I do enjoy the Golds, so I might just stick with them. They are certainly not lacking for slammin' out the tunes.
Rega, Music Hall or VPI Definitely the VPI from that list with the Mk IV being the best of the lot. Others to consider used are Sota Star or Sapphire, Oracle Delphi or Alexandria MkII or III, Townshend Rock III.
Advice on first MC cartridge Second the Delos recommendation. Also Dyna 17d3 if you like your music very detailed and quick. The Ortofon Kontrapunkt B or Windfield used would fit in your price range also. Very nice, detailed cartridges.
Cartridge Loading and Compliance Laws And those ideas are...?
Thorens TD-2030 and SME V Better yet, try an Audiomods as a direct replacement. Cheaper than both the SME and RB1000 and I would say better.
Cartridge Loading and Compliance Laws I wasnt making a general statement that a heavy arm is better. I was just trying to think through the variables and it seemed that a heavier arm would do the things an arm is supposed to do better than a lighter arm. I dont know if that is true, h...
Cartridge Loading and Compliance Laws Tony,I accept your analogy with respect to record warps. I was more referring to the stylus/arm relationship in the normal condition of tracing a flat record groove.Lewn,What I meant is that the tonearm is not moving in relation to itself, while a...
What is the Best Phono Pre-Amp Under $750? I have cartridges ranging in output from .2 to .3mv and have never had a noise problem, even at the highest gain level setting so I dont know that it is the GCPH that is causing the problem or maybe something else in your system or an interaction ...
Cartridge Loading and Compliance Laws Lewn,To use your truck/sports car analogy however, a truck would be less likely to be knocked off its straight path than a sports car hitting the same bump. I dont know that the analogy works because the tonearm is not moving, and therefore has no...
SME 20/12 with V 12 VS Sme 30/2 rgurney, the TAS review is very close to a comparison and they spend a lot of words comparing the two tables and how the 20 has changed to get closer to the 30.
What is the Best Phono Pre-Amp Under $750? For its street price of under 750, I think the PS Audio GCPH is the best combination of sound, convenience and features you can buy. Can be upgraded and also run straight into an amplifier without going through a line amp and has a remote control.
Cartridge Loading and Compliance Laws I understand the need to keep the system resonance out of the audible frequency band and footfall band. But why would a low mass arm be useful in doing that. I would have thought that the idea was to keep the arm from moving in sympathy with the s...
Has anyone tried the new Lyra Kleos? I purchased a Lyra Delos recently and have been playing it in my Sota Cosmos IV with Audiomods arm and SimAudio lp5.3 phono preamp and am at a loss to find any problem areas. The Delos seems to be quick when it should be, smooth and tuneful with n... |
