Oracle SME 345 versus SME 309
the 345 is a 309 with IV bearings and V wiring. It may also have a magnesium arm instead of aluminum, depending on how new it is. My 345 is magnesium, my 309 is aluminum. Can honestly say I hear a diffence.
Which MC for my setup?
in your price range, try a Lyra Delos or Ortofon Kontrapunkt B or Dynavector 17d3. May have to buy used to get down to $1000 like I did.
Denon DP-A100 - is it that bad?
Actually, I didnt think the review, Art Dudley, thought that much of it. He more liked the cartridge.
Oracle Delphi MK IV "Owners" HELP NEEDED
Should be a little hole in the rear base of the motor. Put a small slotted screwdriver in there and turn. Some models have adjustment in the front plate that has the on/off buttons, on the left side.A manual is available at vinylengine.com
VPI TNT HRX table - what tonearms?
suttlaw,How would you compare the TNT to your Cosmos? What was your reason for changing? What arm and cartridge did you use on the Cosmos?
Official fix for Project TT rumble now available
Before jumping on Project, what about the motor speed fix for Rega P3 that caused it to be named a Reg P3-24. Or the multitude of upgraded power supplies and motor controllers that make an "order of magnitude" improvement in the sound of a turntab...
Just Given A Sony PS-X7 Turntable - Worth Using?
For a cartridge I would suggest Dynavector 10x5, Ortophon 2c Black, Clearaudio Aurum Beta. All can be found for less than $500 if you look.

My wife actually has an appreciation for the various items used to play vinyl. Not an understanding, but an appreciation.
Help Me Build a Vinyl System
The Sota Star/Sme4 recommendation is a solid one. Also consider VPI Classic 1 combo. The Lyra Delos is a great cartridge at a reasonable price. Other cartridges to consider in that range are Benz Micro Glider II, Dynavector 17d3, Ortofon Cadenza B...
What is the best storage for cartridges?
There is a nice little cartridge holder that is put up for sale on this site every so often that hold 5 cartridges in standard headshells. Its a little pricey, but works, and keeps them safe if you have lost the stylus protector. And the cartridge...

From high end digital to beginners analog?
A 2 to 4k table plus phono should lay waste to just about any high end digital based on cd. For me, it is a no brainer as to which is better, vinyl by far, but if you were used to digital using a 96khz server based system, you might not appreciate...
Phono preamp under 1k new or used advice?
For me, the great advantage to the PS GCPH is that it can be run straight into a power amp, bypassing the necessity of a preamp. Doing so seems to open up the sound nicely, even though the preamp I was using is a Classe Thirty, a very decent pream...
Phono preamp under 1k new or used advice?
I continue to recommend the PS Audio GCPH as a most remarkable phono preamp under $1000, considerably under since I bought mine new for $499. It has easy loading options for any cartridge without opening the case, and uniquely, a remote control wi...
