Bluetooth vs Turntable Recommendations
Upgrade?  Do you have aturntable at present? I am not a vinyl guy, but I recently bought the Technics 1500.  I admire it's build quality and speed stability, but given the recent advances in Bluetooth codecs, if I was choosing between the tt and ...
Hi-Fi and the Folly of Perfection
Another thread started by a Geezer ruminating that even though his first system from his early days had a small price tag, it gave him more pleasure than the megabucks systems he now uses.    I used to wonder about that until I actually resurrect...
Requesting recommendations for simple and easy to use music streaming devices
You didn't define a budget, but i really like the Cambridge Audio CXN 60, so much that I just bought a second unit for another system.  It costs about $1100.  It has a superb DAC that you can use for other digital sources, and a really good app to...
Classical music newbie needs your suggestions
I got into Classical about half a century ago, and some of the stuff that hooked me in does do much for me now, perhaps due to over familiarity.  The OP is retirement age so I am not sure what appealed to me as a teenager would work for him.  Agai...
Is a highly discerning system enjoyable?
Hearing the occasional wart in a recording shouldn’t ruin your appreciation of music as a whole.  And it’s fun to notice new details in familiar recordings.  So I emphatically answer No! To the thread title
Confession: I only like Norah Jones because so many others told me to
OP   why the angst?  There is so much music that we can choose from.  If a given Artist doesn’t appeal to your sensibilities, why force it?   I listen primarily to Classical.  For years friends, many of them accomplished Musicians, would hector...

+1 @marklings    You might try listening to a really good Classical Internet Radio station, see which Composers appeal to you, then explore.  That is basically how I started
Budget friendly receiver choice
MidFi equipment is undervalued.  One can get a lot of enjoyment and quality reproduction
Best digital format (non streaming)
Presto Classical doesn't off DSD but has a huge selection of other HiRes downloads.  HDTT is another site and they off DSD
Budget friendly receiver choice
I had an Onkyo for several years, frankly can't remember the model number, it seemed similar to yours but had no RC.  It worked fine, no issues, sounded excellent.  I switched to Anthem 520 because I wanted the ARC, but the Onkyo was reliable
Kim Simmonds Has Passed @ 75.
I used to have a Savoy Brown album in my early teens, before my listening tastes changed and went in a different direction. I don’t like to nitpick (well, actually I enjoy nitpicking, I just don’t want to be criticized for indulging in it), and I...
Best digital format (non streaming)
+1 @drmuso and @kr4    A great multichannel mix can add so much to Symphonic recordings, and in two channel a DAC that can accept the DSD output is also special
Where did you buy your first audio gear?
Tech Hi Fi in Ann Arbor, Mi, 1977.  All entry level.  A Pioneer receiver,Garrard turntable, Advent III speakers.  Had to replace the receiver when it died after a few years but the speakers and tt did yeomans work for another three decades
New Mercury Living Presence Mastering
For me the real question here is the Mercury recording approach. It seems to me to have been regarded as a sine qua non in high fidelity for the time, but also lauded simultaneously as somewhat minimalist in comparison to some alternative technolo...
New Mercury Living Presence Mastering
I bought the first two boxes of the Mercury reissues that was released about 5 years ago, and then the 10 disc Paray set  from a Japanese exporter around 2 years ago.  I was surprised when the Eloquence box had a fair amount of material not covere...
