best external drive for ripping CDs
I started with an Apple Optical drive. It died after a few hundred rips and I replaced it with a Bryston Optical player (at the time I was using a Bryston BDP 3.). It was built like a tank, etc, and completely didn’t work. It ripped about 5 CDs, ...
How much should I spend on a new DAC
I have never heard the  DAC.  However I have no trouble imagining, based upon my experience with Pro Ject gear, that it doesn’t begin to hold a candle to the rest of your very capable system.  I think you might find that a DAC upgrade is a signifi...
Conditioning cds and dvds, before playing
+1 @jasonbourne52    I’m still trying to decide if the OP is serious or trolling
Apple iPad music streamer
@voodoolounge    Are you using AirPlay, or Bluetooth, or a digital wired connection between the DAC and the iPad?
Qobuz Customer Service is impossible to reach :(
Qobuz CS was terrible.  I had a billing problem when I first signed up.  First I was playing through my computer but then purchased the Bluesound streamer and after registering it on Bluesound I discovered I was being billed twice.  Their response...
DAC/Pre-Amp Advice
I’ve never tried 2 subs, so I don’t know what I’m missing, but adding one sub really helped, and my floorstanders do pretty good bass.  I listen to Classical and there are so many low level percussion effects that many composers use that one could...
Qobuz hell
I also had problem canceling Qobuz, and did it with a call to my credit card company.     Qobuz was reasonably stable with my streamers at home but was terrible on the move, whether I was walking or driving, with both Apple and Android mobile devi...
For SACD fans only
@ghdprentice You’re not trying to be argumentative? I’d like to see what happens when you do try. OP states in the post title for SACD lovers. Yes, it is a free forum, but that doesn’t mean you have to derail it. There is no law preventing me from...
Qobuz dropping rights to my favorites. A pox on their house.
I have tons of CDs and CDRs, many dating back to the dawn of the format. I have not had a single one “rot”. For those of you having deteriorating CDs, what are you cleaning them with? Sulfuric Acid?   Best to have your music stored on something ...
Bose 901 series with and ipod.
@asvjerry      my one and only iPod is long gone.  I regret that I actually bought the docking cradle made by Wadia.  It extracted the files on the hard drive and bypassed the Apple DAC .  It was truly a great product, worked as advertised, but ...
Using streaming as a main source ---DSD, FLAC, MQA Streamers and DACS
OP    The hobby is supposed to be fun.  Compare the shopping process to buying a car, and the decisions there? SUV or Sedan?  EV?  Hybrid?  Not to mention the different brands and features?   I’m not a car guy.  I just want to get from point A ...
Bose 901 series with and ipod.
@asvjerry    The question was whether an iPod does Bluetooth, not a phone.  I haven’t used an iPod in a long time and I don’t remember using Bluetooth with the one that I had.  And wasn’t Apple resistant at one point in time to Bluetooth?
Bose 901 series with and ipod.
@dekay    thanks for clearing that up
Jean Sibelius Recordings
I listened to the Rattle set yesterday, or 1-5.  There is a lot of pleasure to be had here but in general Sir Simon tends to put pads on Sibelius sharp elbows.  Voluptuous playing, lots of rubato.  I prefer Bergland’s cold bracing Nordic shower to...
Perhaps a guilty pleasure....
