SACD Player/Transport Choices
My Oppo outputs DSD over HDMI to my Bryston DAC 3 which does the decoding.  For the record I have a Sony ES SACD player that also outputs DSD over HDMI into the same DAC.  Not sure what you are reading there.  Readon and Magnetar do the same thing...
Pairing streamer
Reading this thread has reminded me that CDs are refreshingly easy-plug and play.  I stopped tossing my CDs after burning them to my server when I realized that periodically servers, which are networking computers, go down for no apparent reason (...
Replacement/upgrade for Bluesound and Chord Mojo 2 streamer/external DAC combo
I haven’t heard your DAC.  I did have the Node functions both as a streamer and a streamer DAC.  I now use CA CXN 100 and found it to be a significant upgrade.  They just changed their DAC to an ESS Sabre; I have 2 of the older units which essenti...

@faustuss  Have you ever seen the control panel of an Oppo, or one of their derivatives?
The Sacred Ritual of Vinyl: A Return to Mindful Listening
I find the premise in the OP to be so much hooey, and I loved ghdprentice response.  For me the ritual is having time to sit and really take in music.  The medium is irrelevant.  And having the longer playtime, and lack of surface noise with digit...
SACD Player/Transport Choices
I have an Oppo 105 output DSD over HDMI into a Bryston DAC3. The Shanling transport sounds interesting but no HDMI?
Been an avid HT listener
Is this the case with multi channel source material? I could be that your Rotel simply didn’t do decent multichannel decoding, and that it is now defaulting to 2 channel.   If you like what you are hearing now, why change?
Smsl Dac question
I like the Wiim but in your particular case you might be better served by Apple TV, which costs around $50 more.  Your iTunes files should appear on Apple Music app, but you might need to pay the Apple Music monthly fee (I use Apple Music as my st...
"audiophiles listen to their equipment"
I don’t think that you will find many who disagree with you on this site
Technics 1200G vs VPI Forever Model One
I prefer the Direct Drive sound and speed stability.  I own the 1200.  I am sure that the VPI under discussion here is probably a good piece of gear but for me it’s just weird to be able to change from belt to DD with the same table.  It isn’t jus...
Source of Fremer's "1 arc second" claim?
Fremer has to be in his eighties.  He has been listening to music all his life, frequently at high volumes.  Undoubtedly he lacks perfect hearing but he still might be able to detect the changes induced by speed instability, although I share the i...
The new dCS Varese DAC...it is so good that all others are now relegated to history??
Maybe dCS threatened to sue him if the review wasn’t OTT.  They have a history here.     I remember a Steve Stone review in TAS about MQA that informed readers that all of our DACs were now obsolete.  I stopped my subscription then and haven’t rea...
Flex minidsp Dirac Live
I use a mini DSP unit.  I think you have to use your ears to judge the validity of the results and experiment with the different curves.  I spent maybe 2 hours doing this and haven’t looked back since the day I installed it.  My listening room is ...
Do sound characteristics matter when moving from midfi to hifi?
I made a jump in audiophilia around 25 years ago similar to what the OP is about to do.   I disagree about changing everything at once in order to note differences.  The issue there will be identifying which change did what.  I would do one categ...
