Perhaps. I listen primarily to Classical.  Most labels that specialize in multichannel use surrounds for ambience.  The rears try to emulate the reflections that one might experience in the concert hall from walls, seats and ceiling behind the li...

The surround channels are less important, mainly for ambience and movie effects like helicopters flying, so one could justify using a lesser chip in those channels, but it seems chintzy to do so, especially considering that this is not a budget pl...

@arnold_h  thanks for the input.  Your point about the different chips for the surround domain intrigues me.  Do they use a separate chip for each channel?  Or one chip for two vs another for multichannel?
Am I right for this forum?
I just saw this thread.  OP, you definitely seem to know a lot about music, and probably a lot about how acoustic music sounds.  I suspect defer to your judgement on acoustic instruments reproduction more than I would for the majority of posters h...
Give Up on Bacch?
It’s hard to advise because the finance is part of the equation.  If you are Jeff Bezos than you won’t notice the $200.  If you are like the rest of us then the dilemma of being out the $200 versus the total cost for a component that you may have ...
Meeting up with members even where there is no sale
I will be out of town and unable to attend Axpona but I wouldn’t be adverse to starting a Chicago area audio club

Noob question about streaming . . .
I haven’t read all the threads after the first dozen or so, but my take: 1) Wiim is a great bargain, but it at best will be a lateral move from HEOS, and probably worse 2) Spotify refuses to adopt High Resolution streaming.  Any of the the other...
I don't get it...Exile on main Street-Blue
My 1 cent   I listen primarily to Classical but I was a huge Stones fan in my teens.  I disliked Exile when it came out and for the most part hated it, and never bought a Stones album again.  I tried streaming it a few months ago and could only g...
Digital with same soundstage as analog
To go back to the OP, the Oppo 83 can be improved upon.  Personally I run a 105 into the HDMI input of my Bryston DAC and I have an excellent soundstage when spinning SACD.  The results of course depend upon the quality of the original recording. ...
Bluesound Node help
Fwiw I used to own Bluesound and found its operation to frequently be counterintuitive.  My Cambridge Audio streamer is much easier to use

Apple lossless as a source
I have both the V2 and the CXN 100 in 2 different systems. The CA app allows for native Qobuz , either wired or via WiFi. Apple is either via Bluetooth, AirPlay, or Chromecast as discussed earlier. Qobuz is a fine streaming service and it’s proba...
Apple lossless as a source
Nothing like asking one day for help with Apple, and then announcing the next day that they have switched to Qobuz.  I think I will wait a few days before I answer the next such query
