Full Range Drivers
To get the most out of a single driver, you also need a huge, sometime elaborate enclosure. And yes, the best can run some real $$$. But, given the generally high sensitivity you won't need a gigantic amp.
Onkyo Digital Integrated Amps
I have not seen the measured data on the 602s, but would, based on the rest of the B&W line recommend a good amp capable of driving lower impedance and high phase angle loads. The 9555 has gotten terrific press, is available at discount and ca...
Phase rings on tweeters--better "highs" without?
I would be reluctant to re-engineer a tweeter.Maybe adjust setup / room for help?Disclaimer:: This coming from a guy who is dying to put his Maggies in a real wood frame and rebuild the crossover.
Magnepan Placement
Tweeter or hf part of drivers to the outside, generally.Bare minimum of 30 inches from back wall. 48" is more like it. Keep 'em out of corners. They need 'air'. Always have some toe in. Experiment. You can face them right at the seating position of...
Getting FM from my speakers without a receiver???
Do you have any gear with a switching powersupply? Such power supplies operate NEAR Intermediate Frequencies of both FM (some) and more common AM radios. I have no basis for thinking this could actually happen. As for shielding, a better cable wou...
step up from rotel?
No problemo. I had a root canal once and it was one of the least pleasant experiences I ever had. And, it seems many root canals ARE on an emergency basis which just adds to the fun.Heal well, follow doctors orders and enjoy your research:
paranoid listener, bad recordings
Some CDs are just plain junk. Overloud, (clipped), poorly balanced/mixed and can be annoying. I have a Better Midler CD which while I like the music, is nearly unlistenable because of the low level distortion from start to finish.
Noob Planar Speaker Advice Needed
At 0-dark 30, (that's REAL late) I have been known to face my Maggies AT one another and sit in between. Like the ULTIMATE open air headphone. When the house is THAT quiet, you can feel the rosin come off the bow. You get the feeling you are IN the...
step up from rotel?
Different is not necessarily better.Invest the grand in a money market to get it out of your hot little hands and wait for the new space.nobody's pockets are deep enough to change gear THAT often. Or at least non that I actually know.
Getting FM from my speakers without a receiver???
I had to get rid of all my amalgam fillings for this very reason.Congrats on tracking it down. The better cable suggestion should show a result. The AM band is fairly long wavelengths, so I'm sure that changing 'antenna' orientation would help, but...
step up from rotel?
Tiger,I see you intend to move.I'd put off extensive changes until the move is done and you have your space reserved. Than you can intelligently plan your equipment upgrade. As a music lover, aim for something that evokes real, live music. If nobo...
Magnepan, How Low Can You Go...power-wise
As near as I can figure, based on your original post of being 'satisfied' with the 50 watts of the Naim, I'd just suspect the 4x to 5x power of the Simaudio should make you more than satisfied. Naim has its own 'trademark' sound and I am not famil...

You could be right:Now, if they could only come up with the right numbers!
Equipment setup
Is it TOO LATE to convince the neighbors you are DEAF?In years past, I got a lot of traction using that technique.Nobody wants to mess 'with the deaf guy' who enjoys his music and may occasionally like it a little loud. If it's not too late, give ...

Good link. Those kind of 'quality' numbers don't impress me as much as the raw data, however. I like to see both impedance against frequency and Phase Angle against frequency combined into a 'Smith Chart'. This says it all, electrically speaking. ...
