Vintage speakers from the 70's and 80's
I feel that with few exceptions 30+ year old speakers can't compare with the modern designs.Even the well considered....and 125$ each...at the time.....original Advent suffers when compared to modern speakers. Of the FEW vintage speakers I'd like ...
Bi-amping MBL 101's - combining tube & ss
The power needed for each 'way' almost entirely depends on the crossover frequency. That is, if on 'normal'.....whatever THAT is, program material you want the amps to redline at about the same time.
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
I'll try this again.Quality is not a function of inspection or after the fact.Quality is built in by design and procedure. Quality is using good parts which can cost more. Assemblers having proper training and working from proper documentation and...
Servicing amplifiers from very small companies?
IF I bought an amp from a 'small company', a Schematic and other docs would be part of the deal....or NO deal. It's not like I'm going into business as a competitor.
Class D amps
So many Designs. So my implementations. So little time.
Class D amps
Kij,Add to your list 'International Rectifier'. I have one of 'em out in the garage needing a power supply......it is one of the development boards given or sold to people contemplating using them in OEM applications.
How long it take before your system/amps sound
30" or so. this is with a 'd' / ICE amp.It could be as much me as the system, though. I turn it on just after getting up and my ears are totally 'relaxed'....if that's the right word.
A question for Maggie owners
Sorry, Eld, the Schematic clearly shows the fuse for ONLY the mid/tweet. I have a copy right in the other room...... And yes, it will briefly carry more current than 4 amps. I haven't looked at fuse specs but I know it will carry a bunch more for ...
A question for Maggie owners
Pass amps are the only ones I've seen which call out voltage as a 'spec'.How much more power? My 'guess' of 60:40 is based on the following link, which makes reasonable sense..http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htmMy guess of 150 watts @ 4 amps (mid...
A question for Maggie owners
At the stock 600hz crossover and with 250watts to the bass, I'd estimate needing maybe 150 watts to the top-half, so the amps run out of 'steam' at about the same time. That would be about a 60:40 power split...Keeping in the Threshold scheme of t...
Breaking-in a Pass Amp
Pass doesn't do some kind of bench break-in prior to shipping ala Bryston?Give the caps a chance to form, maybe.
Magnepan CCR Center Channel Speaker
Just an itch or is something really wrong?Maybe your local dealer can loan you one of the bigger / better / badder from the CC line. did the 3.6s end up as rears?
A question for Maggie owners
eldar,Yes and yes.I'd add that the low sensitivity is made easier to take by what you refer to. The level doesn't drop with distance as quickly as box speakers. And, they are an easy load, so many amps are a good electrical match, even if you don'...
Magnepan Crossover Mod Approach?
PG will send you off a copy of his crossover which allows a real DIY.You'll end up with external crossovers, since the new caps will invariably be larger than stock. I don't know if he's gotten around to the 1.7s yet, since he listened and wasn't ...
A question for Maggie owners
Some would say the 'best bang 4 buck' would be a pre-loved pair of the 1.6 followed by a trip to magnestand for the full wood frame / stand / crossover mods. Magnepans is the DIY speaker. The stuff I already mentioned is on the table, but even un ...
