MOSFET's vs Bipolar's
http://www.irf.com/technical-info/guide/device.htmlI don't know suitability for audio but........the opposite of 'lateral', which BTW, the majority of devices appear to be. Also, Carver used IGBT from these guys in his Sunfire line....at least par...
How Much DC is OK on a Power Line?
nothing that an isolation transformer can't fix. All my low current stuff goes thru a small, 400va iso transfomer and it and the gear are dead quiet.
Top Ten Speakers of All Time?
Magnepan Tympani IDstill sought after and command relatively high prices. Best bass from a panel speaker....perhaps ever.
One Monoblock or Two?
Doing a search for"Equivalent Peak Dissipation Resistance" gave quite a few hits. I was surprised at the number. In looking thru the first 4 or 5 I came across the stereophile article. In it, the author said something about JA liking the measure, a...
One Monoblock or Two?
EPDR takes into account the reactance of the load. My preference is to go to 'root' and use powerfactor. I also like the power cube way of measuring amp output by taxing the amp with inductive, capactive and resistive loads from 1->8 ohms, and ...
One Monoblock or Two?
Ghost, instead of saying.....how much power is needed per 'half', I'd have asked what the crossover frequency was.The 50:50 power point is about 350hz while more power is indeed needed by the lows as crossover goes to higher frequencies. Also, I th...
One Monoblock or Two?
First, what do you call a 'difficult load'? Are you just referring to impedance / sensitivity? Or, the rest of the equation. If you have to ask what that is, you need to know. Please check out the link on bi-amping. good information for down the ro...
Bandwidth question?
Right you are...The open loop for the ASP500 module is 80khz@8 ohms and 60khz24ohms.All at some specified tolerance.Phase displacement is also noted......
Best Platter Material
In the 'old days' when TT was the only game in town, Dual had a 2-piece platter, either half would ring like a bell when struck, but together were nearly inert. Resonant frequency of each piece was carefully chosen. For a budget job it was very goo...
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
The mac will be fixable for at least 2 generations after the Emotiva is recycled. That is one reason why people buy Mac ....and other 'hi priced brands'. Not that it necessarily sounds better but is hopefully built to a very high standard and will ...
Bandwidth question?
Is the bandwidth thing the problem with 'd' amps? they drop like a rock somewhere around or just OVER 20khz in order to get rid of the switching noise. Early 'd' amps were also noted for RF effects. I once picked one up on a filling. Going along w...
Power line question
Get a Kill-A-Watt meter and start measuring stuff. worth about 20$The callouts on an amp, unless it is a class'a' amp, are max ratings and will usually be much lower.
Subwoofer size for 1500 cubic foot room
one of the small HSU Research would be fine.
Bandwidth question?
I have a Sony ICF-2010 receiver which has a long wave band, from 150khz. and continuous coverage to 30mhz. this covers all the traditional SW bands and than some. What I'm getting at is that if you have an amplifier with bandwidth to 100khz, you'll...
Bandwidth question?
Isn't there also a phase shift component here, too?
