Amplifier current draw/wattage
The 'Kill-a-Watt' plugs into the wall and the device under test plugs into IT. Speakers are different impedance and different reactance at all freuqencies so a single number representing the speaker won't work. Everything in the meter is calibrate...
Impedance or sensitivity?
The opposite of a capactive load is inductive, right? Don't tubes have some problems with one or the other of these reactive loads?I like this presentation of the data. The Smith Chart has been around for a while but doesn't get much hi-fi attenti...
Amplifier current draw/wattage
Spend the 20$ or so on a 'Kill-A-Watt' meter. This will allow you to MEASURE what you are curious about. If you are plugged into a 20 amp circuit, you must derate by 20% for a continuous load....something like 3 hours is the time limit. The meter ...
Impedance or sensitivity?
Another point associated with Al's is that not all amps will drive reactive loads properly. Some amps which are good into resistors will fall flat on the face when confronted with reactive loads....especially at lower impedance. So, couple a 'powerf...
GroOove Lube. Does it work?
I was really pissed a LONG time ago, when I had even less sense than I do now.I was mad and couldn't figure out how to keep records clean...and noise free.In the process of ruining a stylus, I discovered that Armor All worked like a champ, ZERO su...
Need some help with an amp.
Be sure to leave a wonderful feedback........
Magnepan 1.7's best sub match??
You're gonna have standing wave problems with a room of 20x20. The only thing which could make it worse would be a 10 foot ceiling height. If you do go the sub-route, plan on extensive bass corner traps.
smal subwoofer 3
MAYBE, for research, these guys will sell you a driver?http://www.audience-av.com/reviews/PDF/positive_feedback_44.pdfMade here in SoCal, they make 1 driver from which they make several speakers, including a giant linesource w/passive radiator.
Need some help with an amp.
You must have done 'something' eh? Like what? plugged it in and tried it? If the seller doesn't at least kick down 1/2 the fix cost, leave some really awful feedback. I'm sure the testing was 'lights on? check.' followed by 'no smoke? check.'Than ...
Class A to XX Watts
Good 'compromise' and one heck of an amp would be the Pass 'a' series. The XA30.5 is fully 30x2 in 'a'. BUT it redlines at around 3x that+ when firmly in A/B. Unless you are a panel user.....like Elizabeth, me and many others, this is a decent amou...
Newbie needs advice
The CVs are OK to keep for DJ use. Nobody is going to make any cracks about 'imaging' or 'transcendent highs'. They wanna BOOGIE.I'm not familiar enough with the Quad amps, but if they don't run hot or clip, they should be fine. You might want mor...

Need some help with an amp.
Sounds like the IC is acting like an antenna, no?Are their any 110 wires up/down the wall behind where you are running the IC?I have lots of BJC without defect. See if you can borrow some ICs from a store to troubleshoot, though I'm doubting the d...
power cable length importance
If some of the internet buzz is true and ESpecially the letter exchange with BlueJeans, I'd disqualify monster simply because of poor / predatory business practices. Regardless of price, which I think can easily be beaten at any performance level ...
