lps from "classic records" as awesome as axis bold
My experience with reissues has been very mixed, especially with Classic pressings. For example, my Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain have so much surface noise, you'd think they were 40 years old and had been lying around outside of the jacket fo...
Good Analog EQ
Piedpiper,Ceiling is 7.5' high. I think your math is wrong: if my listening position is at 12' and I move the speakers 8'4" out from wall, how does that leave 6' between speaker and me?I did try this - almost. I probably have the speakers about 7'...
Good Analog EQ
One other embarassing question, when measuring speaker position from the front/back wall, do you measure from the back of the cabinet or front(woofer)?

Marty, it sounds like that unit is digital? How do you have it connected?

Thanks again for the responses.I do have the optional stands and I used to use them, but find they're more boomy with them than without (I attribute that to the bass port being more open).I have spoken with Michael Kelly and I have auditioned othe...

Thanks for the responses. PiedPiper: my speakers are Aerial 9's, my room is 14x25 and soundproofed with ASC wall-damping. This sort of traps bass in to some degree, but the issue is that the Aerials were designed with 'thick bass' in mind; they ha...
Cartridges - what have you owned and your opinion
Would a used XV-1 with 500 hours on it be a smart purchase? I have a Dynavector 20XL and was thinking of moving up to the XX2, but after reading all this praise on the XV-1 I'm tempted to try it (especially if a used can be had for not too much mo...
How do you remove static from an album.
Rodman, can you advise where a good place is to buy rice paper sleeves? I've been using plastic coated paper ones and I would like to switch.Even though I wasn't the original poster, thanks for your posts - very informative!
What's with white stains on new vinyl?
I see these stains on products from many different studios. I think 30% of the LPs I purchase have this. Last one was from Matador records. Not sure it's the same problem as the Music Matters, but I'll check that out since I have a few of those LPs...
Aerial 9s--is there a lot more bass than 10Ts?
The 9's need a big room. I have them in a closed in 14x25 room and the bass is overpowering. Midrange is smeared as a result.
Sibilence in one channel means?
Thanks, everyone, I'm going to try this now.
Sibilence in one channel means?
I really appreciate the responses. As mentioned above, I have a VPI Scoutmaster but I'm not using the anti-skate device (mostly because mine sort of broke). I know many people use the wire-twist method and I haven't done anything with that either ...
why sound is so different?
Jorsan, I'm using a Dynavector 20XL cartridge.Again, keep in mind that even with perfect setup, great equipment, some vinyl just sounds like crap. An example:One of my first LP purchases 4 months ago was Steve Miller Fly Like an Eagle. It was $9.9...
Steam cleaning records 2
The vortex tube didn't work for me. You get it setup for one record thickness and then it doesn't work for others. I do use the two o-rings though, but I'm not steaming anymore - I'm using the Walker 4 step.
why sound is so different?
When I got into vinyl about 4 or 5 months ago, I was disappointed at first as well.Part of it was the choices of vinyl; vinyl varies greatly. From both listening to my old collection and buying re-issues etc, some sound like crap and others sound ...
