nice turntable that plays 78s
What's the word on the cheap Pro-ject tables that play at 78? I know they don't have variable speed, but I might be willing to give that up for the simplicity and reliability of a newer table. Thanks for the suggestion, Albert, I'll look into that...

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Dave, are speed problems common with the Thorens?
DOA- do we need to redefine the 'A'?
You're right Viridian, I didn't take notes. This was just a notion, and I'm sorry that I seem to have offended people. A ten day warranty...now there's a blasphemous idea worthy of tremendous scorn.
DOA- do we need to redefine the 'A'?
Jesus you guys I just wanted to get people's thoughts. You act as if I've petitioned Audiogon already. My point was that it might be good to define and state the warranty policy clearly. If that means 2 days, 24 hours, nothing at all, so be it. I ...
Classical music - starting points
Newbee's list is excellent. I might add 'The Planets' by Holst (wanna know where Star Wars comes from?), the Bach cello suites, Beethoven 6, and Appalachian Srping by Copland. Not all from the Romantic, but all good stuff and I think quite accessi...
European Audio Shows
Thanks!
If Audio bug never hit you, what hobby might have?

Audio Refinement CD Complete Alpha Version
My experience differs from Timrhu's. After listening to a -lot- of CDP's last year the Alpha is what I chose, and it's been great. It is much, much improved from the original version in essentially every way. It really does benefit from power cord...
Need an integrated amplifire for totem forest
If you can afford it, I'd go with the BAT VK-300x. If not, check out Unison or Audio Aero, but I'd worry a bit about lack of power.
I am not an opera fan...but...
Personally, I think a great way to start is with Mozart, especially The Magic Flute. Der Fledermaus (Johann Strauss who in most ways I despise) is also really fun and very accessible.
Subtlety ? do any American amps do it?
Personally I throw most of Musical Fidelity right in there with your Krell/Levinson views. Personally I am not a fan of modern British hifi. B&W epitomizes everything you hate about the electronics companies you mention. Personally, if I had t...
Do you remember your first cd?
"Regulate" by Warren G. Ha!
does Sirius sat have a refrence tuner???
Blast! I really liked what Sirius had to offer, is it going under? Correct me if I'm wrong but only Sirius had the NFL and NPR.
