Help for an Old School Audiophile
Hi Mark,I have no idea, I’m too old school to answer this question.  I hope someone else who is reading this can answer your question.  That sounds like a nice system you have, hope you can get some guidance here.
Warm, rich but detailed SS preamp (made you give up tubes)
Museatex AVC1, beautiful spatial quality to it.  I’ve had many different tube & SS combinations over nearly 40 years in this hobby, and if you don’t want a tube preamp, then try to find one of these.  I’m sure there are many other SS preamps t...

Do chinese tube preamp/amp clones interest you?
Thank you all for the comments, political and apolitical, it has opened my eyes to things that I don’t think that much about.I owned an Audio Space EL84 mini int amp that was awesome and an EL34 GemTune GS-01 that was also very good that was proba...
Which tubes are the best?
The Psvane KT88 supposed to be very good, but I’ve heard the Gold Lion are the best KT88’s.  The best 12ax7 is a 5751, that’s why cj always specs them in their preamps.

Why is black so popular for components?
That’s a great point!
Why is black so popular for components?
Yes, you guys are correct and I am colorblind. The NAD’s were brown. I have a later model an NAD 4300 tuner which turned gun metal gray I think and not as nice as the older brown.Funny how colors and cosmetics can be such a big thing!Anyone rememb...
What are the best tuners each company has made, and how you started?
+1 for the REL Precedent, it looks so awesome!grinnell, I have to take the fm tuner info site with a grain of sand sometimes. I use it for validation, but it’s not the end all / be all for tuners, IMHO.I say, if you like a tuner just get it and ch...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
I got a good deal from a friend on a Cambridge Audio Azur 840 CD player after my mint used $40 Rotel 855 went kaput.  All I did was move the 855 into another room and then the laser stopped reading discs. The Azur 840 is very nice but seems very an...
What are the best tuners each company has made, and how you started?
Hi Ed,I too have owned a bunch of tuners over the years and it’s tough to compare one against the other when you don’t have the chance to a-b them, you can only go by your recollection of how you liked a certain tuner. However, for the past 2-3 yea...
Why is black so popular for components?
Black, silver, gold, brown or gray - certain audio manufacturers have their approved color and when they try a different color, it just looks wrong, while other manufacturers can get away with it.- cj in black is a violation, because their gold or...
Are there any tube amps that don't give off any---
Here’s a great tweak that no one knows about.Place your tubes in the refrigerator overnight, preferably the vegetable crisper, for 8 hours before listening.  The next listening session, your tube amp won’t produce any heat whatsoever!Ok, don’t do ...
Speakers which always sound good
I think most British two way monitors are generally very musical and consistently good sounding speakers.  There’s a lot to choose from here but you can’t go wrong with ProAc, Spendor, Epos, Castle, Linn or KEF, IMHO.
