subwoofer connection quandry
al et. al.: thanks for the input. i should have found the earlier thread, which was expressly in point, but i drank too much cough syrup last night, which is interacting very badly with my pysch meds.
subwoofer connection quandry
(i posted my followup query on the wrong post) but, almarg, in your expert view, would there be an issue with simply connecting one of the two sub outputs of the amp to the sub input as others have opined?
Stereo sub out to mono, is it safe?
lord almarg:your explanation, as always makes a lot of sense. in your expert view, would there be an issue with simply connecting one channel of the amp to the sub input as elizabeth suggests?
ARE YOU AN AUDIOPHILE? - FOR THE LOVE OF SOUND
+1 jdedinite. i also know a number of guys who have ever-evolving, very expensive systems who actually own or listen to very little music and/or have only casual knowledge of music. you get the feeling that it's all about the buying and selling an...
Life after ADS
haven't heard 'em all but the 70s x10 series (710, 810 etc.) are ubiquitous on ebay and sound surprisingly modern. the mid 80s xx90s (1290, 1590) are the real prizes, however, and hold up remarkably well.
Beck / Morning Phases
been listening to this more, and i'm revising my initial impressions upwards--the songs are there, and as others have commented it's sonically excellent. i still struggle with his voice--he uses the same unnatural-sounding baritone on each track a...
Sony 5400 or DAC ?
i would think with the precipitous decline of physical media and upsurge in computer-based audio you'd be better served with a dac than a cdp--you'll have a lot more flexibility going forward
Beck / Morning Phases
very very similar in feel and sound to sea change, which i've always had mixed feelings about. the new album's pretty, and good sounding, and he's got a nice feel for melody, but with beck i always hear more intellect/craft than genuine musicality...
WoW, WoW , Wow Sun Kil Moon/Benji
mark kozolek is a brilliant player/singer/writer, but comes off as an incredible dick live--hostile, abrasive and hugely self-absorbed. some people wear the cloak of genius differently, i guess. anyway, i checked out the new skm album and it reall...
Satellite Type Speakers for 2ch System
phasecorrect might have the right idea with the a2 for your space--it might be less boomy (though i'd be inclined to try both the a2 and a5 and avail yourself of the retrun policy). you can connect a sub to the a2 by plugging your unused "input" f...
Satellite Type Speakers for 2ch System
i'd ditch the receiver and go with some powered speakers like audioengine a5 ($350)or swans m200 (same).
Network Music Player or CD Player-Opinions Wanted
i was a diehard, reactionary cd guy; i still own gazillions of cds and like the tactile feel of a physical medium. however, since buying a squeezebox touch 3 years ago i rarely actually play a cd--mostly i just ogle the covers. we can debate wheth...
Suddenly, Porcupine Tree
i think of pt as prog for people like me who really don't like prog. what separates them from their ostensible peers is that they (like pink floyd and radiohead) have generally-accessible tunes with real melodies, not just exercises in virtuosity ...
What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?
argent were basically the zombies without the great singer colin blunstone and were very good in their own right--sort of a poppier, less bombastic elp. i actually chanced to revisit them recently and was surprised how little they've dated. not ex...
