Polishing a Micro Seiki RT 3000G Gunmetal platter
As a car guy, I was gonna mention Simichrome too, but I thought perhaps it was not quite appropriate since the platter is gunmetal, not aluminum. Simichrome is great for aluminum parts. However, I suspect all of these specialized polishes are simi...
Going from MM to MC
What Mijostyn said. Also, there is no reason to think you must have an MC cartridge in order to realize your goals.  There are any number of MM and especially MI cartridges (e.g., Grado, Nagaoka, SoundSmith) in the same price range as the MCs you...
Table,cartridge,phono...where to put most of my money?
Pindac, I got no PM from you, today or previously. I did find a DP80 for sale on eBay for $800 plus shipping from Japan. Still quite a bargain, IMO, if it’s in good working order as claimed by the seller. For $400 and even less, you can buy one or...

Are you experienced with an orbital polisher?  If not, don't, in my opinion.
Asking for members blessings on Nagaoka MP 300 purchase
My only point was i don’t change VTA for every or even any particular LP. But by all means, when installing a cartridge I do set VTA using an LP of average thickness. I set it initially so that the top of the headshell is parallel to the LP surfac...
Table,cartridge,phono...where to put most of my money?
Pindac, where on earth can one find a functioning DP80 for $400? If such a bargain exists, I’ll buy them all, and so too should anyone else. In a proper plinth, I’d put the DP80 up against any TT under $5000.

Have you ever calculated the actual change in VTA that occurs when one adjusts for an "average" LP (in terms of thickness) and then plays for example a 200gm LP or on the other hand an exceptionally thin LP, like maybe an old RCA Dynagroove (they ...
Ultrasonic cleaning
I am only struck by the huge difference in recommended concentration of IPA (in the case of Neil’s recommendation) or Ethanol (according to Wizzzard). 2.5% IPA vs 22% EtOH. Somewhere way back when I picked up the idea to use 25% of 99% IPA in dist...
AirTight PC-1 supreme vs Dyn XV-1S
That's got to be a small sample of a very small sample on this forum.  (I am not aware of any regulars who own a Kronos of any kind, and if they are lurking out there, then a very small percentage of them will have auditioned both of those particu...

Funny thing. I just set the top of the headshell parallel to the LP surface, and the MP500 delivers the goods on every LP.
AirTight PC-1 supreme vs Dyn XV-1S
What Stringreen said. Plus, it is a matter of your choice of tonearm to go with one cartridge vs the other.  The TT is going to do the same job (maintain constant speed, eliminate resonances, both to the degrees that its design permits) regardless...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
Mijo, I don’t even fathom your retort. Why does my adoration of the Drifters suggest I might have been a fan of Lawrence Welk, at any time in my life? Schmenge Brothers, yes. Welk, no.
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
Whether they are "Under the Boardwalk" or "Up on the Roof", Drifters rule.  Paul Revere and the Raiders?  Pleeeze!
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
Au contraire, mon amis. I assume the faint hiss is coming from the voltage gain stage that adds 11db to the voltage output of the current driven stage. At +7db, there may be fewer gain devices in the signal path and hence a better S/N ratio. Also ...
