Step Up Transformer Question
While the Epoch may certainly be superior sounding to the Koetsu, for a given listener, this may be the first time I ever read that someone thought a Koetsu cartridge, especially a "KRSP", was "too analytical". But then again, that was the guy who...
Vibration Question
I guess you don't want to hear my real opinion, which is that outboard arm pods are a bad idea in the first place.  But if you must have one in this case, why not have your constructor build you ONE pod that works better for the SME mount than doe...
Does a record player make that much of a difference??
Tweak1, I’ll bite. What are you going to do with the Variac?
Step Up Transformer Question
How are you reducing phono gain in the Bellari?
Vinyl is back for good and that’s exciting
You got me all wrong. I’m no LP snob. I just don’t buy records in less than mint physical condition. That means no LPs from Goodwill or yard sales have ever qualified. At CAF I bought a dozen used LPs from a trusted vendor at $10 each, all mint. A...

grislybutter, Apparently you shop at Goodwill and yard sales.  Prices on coveted work by first rank artists on original labels are pretty stable if not rising, based on my recent 3 days spent at the Capitol Audio Fest here in DC. I am referring of...
Zesto Andros 1.2
Just don't go by cost as a measure of performance.

I’m thinking if you reduce the voltage output significantly, so that fewer turns of wire are needed to generate the lower signal voltage (and also resulting in a lower internal R and inductance), then it might be possible to mate the Hyperion to a...
Manley Chinook SE MK2
Tubes are one cause of "noise", but we don’t know what sort of noise was experienced with the noisy Chinook. One reason the Chinook (and the Steelhead) are both exceptionally quiet for "tube" phono stages is that they are not purely tube phono sta...

One wonders what the inductance of a low output MI might be, to render it useable with current driven phono stages. Very interesting.
Vinyl static ionizers who's used them?
And I don’t see the need to have a deionizer blowing on the LP during play, because I’m convinced that friction between stylus and groove does not cause static charge, so just treat the LP before playing and be done with it.
Affordable Tube Tester
In general, you can’t go wrong with a Hickok that’s tested and calibrated. Or any other brand that measures transconductance, many of which were also built by Hickok. The Amplitrex costs more because it’s likely to be better than even a vintage Hi...

Zenith error is a huge issue because most don’t know their cartridge has it, how much of it, and the capacity to correct for it.  Not many will send every cartridge to Wally. A 2 degree error will destroy alignment accuracy if ignored.
Manley Chinook SE MK2
I have to wonder whether the Chinook that was said to be noisy in high gain mode might have been defective. There are many possible causes. Whatever one might say of my Steelhead, it’s very quiet in all gain modes. I can’t live with a noisy phono ...

Mike, have you been using the Voice in current mode? Otherwise I’d think the inductance of the Hyperion might present a problem in current mode. DCR may be 10 ohms, but its inductance causes AC resistance or impedance to rise with frequency, which...
