Humminguru record cleaner
FWIW, ultrasonic stylus cleaners are not “ultrasonic”, if you define it as beyond range of hearing. They operate at about 500 Hz. I once compared US cleaning to cleaning with my VPI HW17, using DI water, alcohol, and TX100 in the VPI. I used a fa...

To find motor, start at the platter edge and follow the belt until you come to a pulley. That’s the motor.
A phono preamp with equalization selector
Of course that is possible, but do you think it really has to do with the "1980s"?  More likely that a single particular recording regardless of the time line, might by chance sound "better" using an equalization curve other than RIAA. (And Columb...
A phono preamp with equalization selector
You peaked my curiosity as to whether there is some new information pertaining to equalization curves used in the earliest decade or so of 33 rpm vinyl LPs.  (So this has nothing whatever to do with any record that is not in that category.)  You m...
A phono preamp with equalization selector
You must be a youngster. 60s and 70s were the haydays of vinyl and by then all companies pretty much had settled on RIAA equalization. You have to go back to the 50s and late 40s (the advent of the 33rpm LP) for divergence in equalization. I alway...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
Goody, I appreciate the sarcasm but please show me where I was incorrect. Then I’ll apologize.
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
Here is a statement I found on another website that is relevant to the mono discussion: "A true mono cartridge has only one coil and is designed to respond to lateral signals only. It does not respond to vertical signals. A stereo cartridge strapp...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
Goodlistening, I guess you can listen, but I would appreciate it if you would re-read the last several posts about using a mono switch. It was Elliot (not I) who claimed that noise due to vertical deflection of the cantilever (not "volume", the te...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
The answer is that when you sum the two channels in phase you cancel signals due to vertical deflection of the cantilever. So Elliot was in error to claim such noise is doubled.

Is it possible for you simply to admit you made a few innocent but incorrect claims earlier on in this thread? I’m sure you’re a fine person regardless. I only corrected you so as to help others who may be newbies.

Elliot, You wrote, "Playing a Stereo Cartridge even if your Preamp has a Mono Mode: the cartridge will pick up any vertical movement: scuffs, surface dust, dirt in the grooves, very slight warps: then the preamp’s Mono Mode will DOUBLE the unwante...
Rega Planar 3 50th anniversary
Goodlistening, you wrote in response to my post. "I would guess that over 50% of "audiophiles" have not personally swapped out a cartridge. It does take a steady hand and when you get up in age and your cartridge is north of $500, it just makes s...
Rega Planar 3 50th anniversary
Was not a "rebuke". In your first written effort, your words made it seem you had to replace one P6 with another in order to use a new (Rega) MC cartridge. I am not a Rega-phile, but I have read often about the fixed VTA and limited alignment flex...
new Ortofon TA 110 or Vintage SAEC 308L
The tonearm/cartridge match makes a very significant difference in how you perceive the sound of any "cartridge". Try listening to the same cartridge in two different tonearms, on the same TT, and you will see what I mean. Which is why I say the t...
Rega Planar 3 50th anniversary
You had to buy a whole new P6 in order to change cartridges? That’s what you wrote, and if true doesn’t that highlight a major issue with Rega TTs? Utter lack of flexibility and adjustments.
