MM Phono Input impedance change 47k to 100k ohms
I'm with Pryso, by the way. I installed a 100K load R in my MM-only phono stage with the eventual intention of installing a rotary switch so I can change the load R downward and/or add capacitance. The switch will optionally parallel another 100K ...
Rabco SL-8E Tone Arm
Nandric, I believe the "watchmaker" of whom you speak was Herb Papier, the eventual inventor of the Triplanar tonearm. I think Herb used to tell me of his adventures with the Rabco. The Rabco was invented and built here in the Washington, DC/Maryl...
Trans Fi Salvation direct rim drive turntable
Re the Resomat. When I first saw the photo, I realized that the idea is not new; Transcriptors used it a few decades ago. But the Transcriptors platter that I could remember (because I owned one), with the raised pucks to support the LP off the pl...
TriPlanar Tips
Thanks, Doug. I was feeling unappreciated due to not being credited for the loctite idea. (Did you know that autocorrect wanted to change "loctite" into "lactate"? Is there some cosmic significance to that?) We have brass doorknobs in our house, h...
MM Phono Input impedance change 47k to 100k ohms
OK. Now I know that Al actually uses 100K, too, and with a SS phono stage, whereas mine is tube-based. Actually, I never knew that there was any written statement from Grace to the effect that 100K is preferred; I am using 100K because that's the ...
MM Phono Input impedance change 47k to 100k ohms
FWIW, I have a Grace Ruby which I load at 100K, and I love that cartridge. However, I would not say that 47K is not also appropriate, only that I perceive no downside to using 100K. Now I have to go read Al's treatise on why he prefers 47K.
Zesto Andros PS-1 Tubes
7316s are very good, if you must use a 12AU7 variant. Amperex BugleBoy ECC82s are the best of the true 12AU7s I have heard in my system.
Trans Fi Salvation direct rim drive turntable
Spirit, I am interested to hear the Salvation. I am already convinced that the Terminator is a great audio bargain, if you can put up with the fussiness of any air-bearing tonearm. However, I would take issue with your hypothesis that whatever it ...
Turntable speed accuracy
Dear Peter, I hate to be a pain in the arse, but you wrote, "I found that the Fieldpiece readings were not repeatable and by just moving the device closer to or further away from the platter, the reading changed, though I know the platter speed re...
Well Tempered Amadeus turntable, giant killer?
Does the tonearm hold stable azimuth all across an LP?
Moving coil with a bit less leading edge
Guys, don't you think it's possible for music in a good hall to sound crisp AND for a given cartridge to over-exaggerate the leading edge of transients, moreso than in nature (or in a great concert hall)? Both propositions can be correct.Sadly and...
Moving coil with a bit less leading edge
The unique ability to pick up the trailing edge or the decay of musical instruments is exactly what I find so appealing about some of the best MM cartridges I have been playing with for the past year. I especially hear this on solo piano music wit...
Well Tempered Amadeus turntable, giant killer?
Stereophile and a random collection of persons who post their views here and elsewhere on the internet are about equally credible. Meaning both should be taken with a grain of salt, and neither is a substitute for direct experience.I have joked ab...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
No. I like sapphires and have bought her a few. Just for the color. Looks good on her. Also, a potential source for cantilevers, if civilization collapses.
Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
I too asked Dover what turntable he currently favors, but the question remains unanswered. I suspect that Dover does not want to get into an argument about direct-drive vs some other technology that he may favor, and I don't blame him. I can only ...
