Cartridge impedance loading question
Interesting: The URL offered by Atmasphere gives access to calculators for both RC and RL type filters. Using the RC calculator, I cranked in 150pF as an approximation of capacitance of my tonearm wire plus that of the phono input stage (which is ...
Cartridge impedance loading question
Atmasphere is of course correct re the ease with which the load R can be changed on the MP1. I, however, never happy unless I am messing around, have installed a 4-pole, DT switch on the rear panel, such that I can choose among 3 load resistances ...
Cartridge impedance loading question
Don, The phono cables are the OEM cables supplied with the Kenwood L07D and L07J tonearm. These are very low in capacitance Litz type. I re-terminated them with male XLRs, for use with the Atma MP1.
Cartridge impedance loading question
Don, I did not (yet) say I prefer 47K. I did say I tried it by serendipitous accident and was surprised at how good it sounded with the MC2000, with the one exception that bass was a bit flabby. When I then switched to the gospel 100R load, I don'...
Cartridge impedance loading question
Thanks, Fleib. Which is why I next intend to try the third alternative readily available to me, the way I have set up my MP1… 1000R, in hopes that it will provide the best tonal balance. But 47K is soooo good! Of course, now I want to re-visit all...
Cartridge impedance loading question
Apropos of Atma's last two posts, last night I auditioned for the first time a newly acquired Ortofon MC2000 cartridge, one of the lowest of the "LO" MCs ever made. The MC2000 is said to have an internal resistance of 3 ohms, so a 100R load would ...
High end cartridge made in USA?
Davey, First, as someone else pointed out, building an MC cartridge is not done by persons making 50 cents an hour. It is done only by an experienced craftsman. Among such persons in the world, only one that I know of lives in the US, and he is Pe...
Yet another contender for my Klyne 6PE: ARC PH5
Daniele, Note that the Klyne 7PX is located in the Far East. Thus there is no problem with high shipping costs from the US to Italy, if that helps.K&K Audio. Using Google or any typical search engine, you should be able to find it. I use sever...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Henry, You're correct. There was one point in the past where I did think I had the problem solved, or more fairly, I did think that after all the re-soldering and fussing either I had accidentally re-soldered the exact right bad connection so as t...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
You are perhaps referring to my innovative tt "feet", made of small cans of Mandarin Orange slices in water. I think Del Monte brand sounds best (joke here), but you may have different brands in Oz. I still use them under my Denon DP80 and Lenco L...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Dear Henry,Here's a story about my TT101 that fits this thread. As you and some others may recall, I bought mine very cheaply in "broken" condition. Bill Thalmann re-capped it and Bill and I re-soldered many of the joints. All of that work did imp...
Yet another contender for my Klyne 6PE: ARC PH5
Daniele, See the link above for the Klyne on eBay.

Klyne 7PX
Yet another contender for my Klyne 6PE: ARC PH5
Daniele, There's a Klyne 7PX right now for sale on US eBay. Comes from an apparently reliable seller in the Far East, 220V. Shipping to Italy would probably be cheaper than shipping to US.
favorite phono cartridge
Seems most folks like best the cartridge they own and use in the here and now. Not surprising. I vote with Altanpsx's principle: this is an entirely subjective question and system-dependent discussion. However, a ZYX UNIverse low output version mi...
