Static electricity pulled the rubber mat right off the Turntable!
Nick, do you, or does the OP, have a wool carpet underfoot?  Leather-soled shoes?  Very often, the static charge happens because of what the user brings up to the turntable (what he or she is standing on, what shoes he or she is wearing) during th...
Static electricity pulled the rubber mat right off the Turntable!
I guess my point was that even if the 0P is successful at reducing the humidity from 60-65% ambient to 45% in his house, 45% humidity is not particularly low. Certainly not low enough to account for the massive problem with static electricity.

I would not feel comfortable about using anything on my LP is that I was expecting to be “removed by the cartridge after one or two plays”. Or similar words to that effect. There are certainly many other options that come before that seemingly dan...
Will fine tune adjustments with protractor help with "brightness?"
Because the character of the sound changes as the cartridge moves from outer to inner grooves, it is reasonable to think that his issue might be ameliorated if he uses a different alignment from that recommended by the factory. However, I also do...
TIGER PAW "Tranquility" (Magnetic Bearing Repulsion...) Any Good?
Davey, Is it correct to infer from your post that with the Tiger Paw mod, the belt drives the actual platter only indirectly, via the magnetic connection between the TP disc and the platter?  This would be much like the Transrotor TMD option, I th...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
Chakster, Thanks for digging up the old quote from Raul.  It seems my recollection of his opinion was in error.  You guys have stimulated me to mount up the 17D3 and compare it to my Audio Technica ART7.  The two are in the same price range.  In f...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms
I wondered whether Syntax's post, from late 2014, was written before the advent of the UNItractor, designed and built by his colleague, Dertonearm.  The UNI and the even later SMARTractor are in a way a homage to the Dennesen, so I was surprised t...
Reel to Reel Tape
In the 70s when R2R was alive and well, most audiophiles  worshiped at the foot of Revox although certainly amperex and studer were the choice of professional s.  I notice, now that it there is a Renaissance of R2R, not many people are reverting t...
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
I think I was being too hard on Pani.  I can well understand why he went for the PS upgrade just based on this affliction we all suffer from, that of being an "audiophile".Then too, I had the very weird experience of hearing that a fuse connected ...
What phono pre am I looking for?
JLTi is probably a very nice phono stage for the money, but let's not pretend that it competes with really good phono stages in higher price brackets.  For Allen Wright and Joe Rasmussen, it was never their top of the line product.  AW preferred h...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
Thanks, effischer.  I own three DV tonearms, two 505s and one 501. Mike Pranko helped me out more than once to obtain parts for these tonearms.  Among distributors, he is one of the good guys.
Lyra Atlas experiences
I have never understood the "new battery" thing with the Foz.  Brand new 9V batteries are not uniform in their measurable voltage output, and they generally will be producing somewhat more than 9V when they are new, but the exact value varies betw...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
Thanks for the clarification.I noticed that the 17 D3 is not listed on the Dynavector website as a current product. In fact the only cartridges listed under the moving coil section are the 20 X2 and the DV 1S and T models. Yet I think you can stil...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Now you can move up from Nancy to Frank.

bpoletti, I wasn't trying to be funny when I mentioned Raul. He has auditioned the 17 vs the 23; he wrote about it on the old big MM thread. On the other hand, I can imagine why you found it funny. I think Raul preferred the 23.  As to all the alp...
