Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Actually, I am very much a “whole-ist”, Nandric. I have reached a state of satisfaction with each of two audio systems and feel no real need to radically change either one. This perhaps is one reason why I feel no compulsion to purchase an SP10R, ...
Phono stage as preamp
Usually, no.just make sure that the phono stage alone has enough gain to drive the amplifier as well as a low enough output impedance for the same end. Most hi level devices do not need the extra gain afforded by a separate line stage.
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Pryso, Sorry I apparently missed your previous post regarding cross compatibility of plinths.  However, the information is unlikely to be correct, simply because the Mk2 and Mk3 per se are not cross compatible with regard to plinth, unless Technic...
Cartridge Loading- Low output M/C
Al, Thanks for bringing up the question of metering. I do own a Sencore LC meter that can measure down to the pF level. If I want to measure the capacitance of a cable, do I just place the Sencore probes on the hot and ground of the cable, with th...
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Downunder, In your above post, are you suggesting that Technics ought to offer the option of SP10R + plinth but no tonearm?  If so, I was thinking the same thing myself.  Perhaps that will come eventually.  Because there might also be a market for...
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
I wish I hadn’t written that, only because I dislike categorical statements as much as you do, Nicola.on the issue of replacing capacitors, those who scoff remind me of those who deny climate change. Aged electrolytic capacitors eventually WILL le...

Chakster, TT101 is not better than mk3. No matter how much you may wish it.
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Not too many of those $1200 to $1400 SP10 Mk2s have already been refurbished, freshened with new electrolytic capacitors where needed, and calibrated by someone who knows what they are doing.  That’s what bugs me when I read that someone compared ...
Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Pani, thank you for your detailed report.  The Technics on those AT footers is very different from the very same turntable placed into a massive plinth.  You heard the Mk2 one of the two ways it should be used.  True, the “no-plinth” approach has ...

Chakster, What you say about tax is true in Tokyo.  Only the big stores, however, want to be bothered with the paperwork needed in order not to charge the tax.  And one would need to present a valid passport, of course.  Of all the stores I have s...
Upgrade tonearm for Lenco L75 turntable jean natais plinth to perhaps a Durand Kairos ?
I’d do what folkfreak recommended.  Then measure out the pivot to spindle distance for either the Kairos or the Talea, using of course the spindle of your Lenco for one reference.  See where the pivot point would fall on your arm board. This will ...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
As you know, I have a Reed 2A, 10.5-inch, on my Mk3.  I lust a bit for the 3P.  I think this new pivoting/SL tonearm is called the 5T.  It seems to work like the Schroeder LT; the base moves as the tonearm traverses the LP, so as to maintain a str...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
Wow.  Thanks for the recommendations. I too am interested in the Yamamoto CF headshell, but I did not see any Yamamoto products in any of the 3 high-end stores I have so far visited.  Today I did buy an Oyaide HS-CF, perhaps close to the Yamamoto....
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
Even if a local (Japan) 10R is set up for 100V, that is no problem at all. Good robust step down transformers for AC are very easy to find and very cheap. I already have two turntables at home, my L07D and my DP80, running off 115V to 100V step do...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
Chakster, Why are you so obsessed with market values?  Who gives a hoot?  (I use the word “hoot” in lieu of an obscenity.)  My prediction is that there will be a difference between the two up or down, and that the difference is so small as to be n...
