The Cartridge and Stylus makes a big difference.
LPS is supposed to be their best effort, according to those who have heard it.  I heard it at a friend's house, was not overwhelmed, but I have never been a big fan of Benz cartridges.  He dumped it in favor of the latest version of the ZYX Univer...
The Cartridge and Stylus makes a big difference.
"the cartridge and the most importantly, the stylus has a lot to do with good sound."Why is that a revelation?  I take it more as a given.
The urge to tinker is awash. What TT might better mine and why?
As the owner of a much modified Lenco and four high quality DD turntables, and having owned a Notts Hyperspace before embarking on my odyssey with idler- and direct-drive, I feel confident in saying that any top notch vintage DD or any well develo...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Buying cartridges in Japan:Boys, I travel to Tokyo frequently and when there I haunt audio salons in my spare time. You will never see a Lyra cartridge overtly for sale in Tokyo. Likewise for Koetsu, maybe excepting their lowest cost models. If yo...
Tonearms: Ripoff?
The joke's on me.  I posted on the wrong thread, in my comment on buying cartridges in Japan.  Davey, however, found me. This tonearm thread is just as annoying.
JVC tt-101 repair
Lack of torque may be a sign it needs calibration, which is not a big deal if you can find someone who knows how to do it.  Before that, though, the electrolytic capacitors should be evaluated and probably most of them need replacing.  Failure of ...

What separate tube phono stage do you use ?
Tooblue, unless you’re a teenager, any well built phono stage will outlive you, unless you define death as tubes wearing out, or in the even longer run, electrolytics going bad. Both of those events need not be “fatal”.

DP80 also allows speed adjustment but I think it disengages the servo.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
+2 for Herman, but I said as much several pages ago.

Peter, your comments lead me to believe that you have probably installed your tachometer on a few Denon turntables that you have restored. I am wondering whether you find that your tachometer is in agreement with the built in strobe device on Den...
Tonearms: Ripoff?
Davey, now that you have admitted that you generally agreed with the review opinions of HP, I think I understand you a bit better. While HP was probably the greatest of audio Review writers, his opinions were diametrically opposed to my own  in m...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
If you are a serious and well healed potential buyer of a $10,000 cartridge or a $50,000 turntable or, god forbid, a tonearm, believe me, there IS a dealer out there who will get on an airplane and fly even to your desert island in order to demons...

The RR is half the battle.  The real benefit is realized when the RR is used in concert with either the Eagle or the Falcon to power the motor.  In that case, the RR feeds back to the power supply and holds speed steady as a rock (once equilibrium...
