Thoughts on moving from a 1200G to Sota Saphire or above
No point in our getting into a private back and forth here, but please do not take what I wrote as a criticism or an insult.  Most of all, I would not insult your cartridge collection.  I hope you would admit that you are a champion of MM and MI c...

Chakster, I must say I am impressed by your level of certainty, at times.  You wrote, "Additional headshell pins and even a DIN connector on a tonearm will not change the sound of a great tonearm/cartridge."  How can you, or anyone, know this for ...

sbank, Crazily, I admit, I have multiple turntables up and running and just as many tonearms.  I use two with fixed headshells, Reed and Triplanar, and three with removable headshells.  When I want to experiment with different cartridges, I am dra...

The audio establishment sold us the idea that headshells were inherently unstable mounted at the end of an arm wand, so now we’ve got a lot of expensive tonearms with fixed headshells. Around the same time they sold us the idea that bass and trebl...
Measuring "Stylus Drag" with the RPM Speed and Wow app
Better to buy the KAB strobe disc and the battery powered strobe light that goes with. Can use with any TT and is much more accurate than any built in strobe on our vintage DD TTs. But that will only give you a qualitative answer that you can verb...
Measuring "Stylus Drag" with the RPM Speed and Wow app
Not that I care a lot, but I disagree that actual data would be worthless. I think it would be interesting. However I do not think it will ever happen because of the necessary controls that we really as a group cannot put into affect.
Measuring "Stylus Drag" with the RPM Speed and Wow app
The inertia of the platter, the torque available from the motor, the particular musical passage, the position of the stylus on the LP surface relative to the spindle, the cartridge, etc., etc. These are all factors that would influence any measure...
SUT Advice - Which Ones Are The Best?
A coil inevitably has inductance. However there are some tricks of winding that can minimize it, as in Mills resistors. Otherwise wirewound resistors are inductive. It’s the law.

“Steadier pitch”, if and only if the basic speed constancy of the SOTA is as good as that of the 1200G, which isn’t likely. Also, does $10,000 pay for either one of the recommended tonearms plus a SOTA Nova w vacuum?
TT rumble versus "oscillation": what's the difference?
TT rumble can cause subsonic woofer oscillation which is what you’re observing.
If I could afford, I’d purchase 100% Oswald Mills Audio gear
Huh?

Communism was a failure, and now capitalism has run amok. If this makes you angry, then spend some time and energy in the political arena to promote a more level playing field. Megabuck turntables are only a byproduct of societal problems and not ...
Mono cartridge recommendation
I could be wrong, but I think SOS is an original stereo pressing. Hence the advisory note that you quote. It’s divine regardless.
3 New UBER Decks - Is this Turntable's SwanSong? 🦢
Thanks, Richard.Mijo, people like you put Tower Records out of business. That was a joke, but my point is that one cannot act as you suggest these days in the USA due to the dearth of brick and mortar LP stores. The ones we do have are primarily s...
SUT Advice - Which Ones Are The Best?
JCarr, thank you for the erudite post. For most of us, the needed gain is easily estimated, and the internal impedance of the cartridge is available from the maker, but I know of no instance where the primary inductance of the SUT is accessible to...
