How to isloate turntable motor from making a hum
Russ, op says he can’t get TT and phono stage any further from each other. Maybe sell some of that expensive gear and get a bigger room. (Joke)ps. I doubt the Steelhead is the source of the EMI. Steelhead has an outboard PS with a long umbilical. ...
Possibly Dumb Question re:Battery as a power supply
I don’t see a problem. The clearaudio price is beyond ridiculous. Get a 12V Optima car battery and the Optima “smart” trickle charger, for maybe $200 or so, and be happy. Best to shut down the charger when you’re running the TT, and for an extra t...
How to isloate turntable motor from making a hum
What MC said.  Your situation is no surprise, given the extreme proximity of tt and preamp.  Cheap and dirty is to use heavy duty alu foil between them or around the motor or whatever works, but it should be grounded. For that you could use a clip...

Ditto to what Ozzy said. Plus, on any digital forum you’d get more expert responses.
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
In the end, the firing squad would be a kindness.
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
I think this thread should be taken out and shot.  Blindfold optional.
Questions on Overhang/Cartridge Alignment using Dr Feikert Protractor on VPI Classic 3
Agree that the Feickert is a great protractor but the instructions are poor, as per my mention that the markings on the spiral gauges, to be used to set effective length, are in terms of P2S distance.  It's easy to keep that in mind, if you do an ...
Clearaudio Maestro vs Ortofon Cadenza cartridge?
"Alignment" has to do first with the tonearm, not the cartridge. VTA and azimuth are a function of stylus shape, however. There is nothing odd about the styli on the ART9X cartridges, so far as I know. The ART7 got no special attention from me in ...
Questions on Overhang/Cartridge Alignment using Dr Feikert Protractor on VPI Classic 3
Would you mind saying what are steps 2 and 3, for the benefit of those of us who (1) don't want to do a net search right now, or (2) don't own a Feickert protractor, or (3) do own one (like me) but don't care to go dig it up to figure out what you...
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
Raul, no sensible audiophile could disagree with what you wrote. (Is the term “sensible audiophile” an oxymoron?) But at the outset, the OP wrote that he did not want responses to the effect that everything is important. This I think drove the ten...
Clearaudio Maestro vs Ortofon Cadenza cartridge?
I will leave the MM advice to Chak, but as he mentioned, at around $1000US, you ought to consider the AT ART9Xa or 9Xi, as examples of good MC types. I own the ART7, which is father of the low output version of the newer 9X models. (Can’t recall w...
Ok, what just happened? My turntable journey...thus far.
Also keep in mind what Atmasphere has written many times about the potential role of the phono stage in enhancing ticks and pops. I think the phenomenon he describes is very underrated as a cause. I own very large heavy turn tables that are isolat...
Matching cartridge to phono pre amp. pF!?
McIntosh recommended 100pF knowing what interconnects and cartridge you are using? Or what? Because the best choice, if capacitance loading at the input is selectable, would depend upon those two variables.
My kiseki Blackheart nightmare.
Any idea what caused the tinkle?
