How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
I apologize for being too harsh, Mijo. Was trying for humor. By the way, my OTL Atma-sphere amps originally used the high current Russian triodes (6C33C) designed for use in their jet fighters on board radar. This was deemed advisable because tube...
Upper Level Vintage DD Strenghts and Weaknesses
I think you would find, or at least in my opinion, MC cartridges have advanced quite a bit more in terms of sound quality than have moving magnet or moving iron iron cartridges, since the good old days of the 1970s. I choose that era because the f...
JVC TT 71: buy now for spare for my or TT81?
And I forgot to mention that because of that issue with the swelling of the printed circuit boards, I suggest using the Victor turn tables in a low humidity environment or at least in an environment where the temperature fluctuations are minimal.
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
Mijo, the Goldmund T3F LT tonearm was a straight up ripoff of the Rabco SL8E, which was designed by an engineer who lived here in bethesda, MD, not a gnome in Switzerland. I always wondered whether it was done under a contractual agreement, and if...
JVC TT 71: buy now for spare for my or TT81?
Elliot, why do you expect your TT81 to fail eventually? I recognize the favorable cost factor with the TT71, but I always prefer buying upscale, rather than down. Also issues with the TT101 are a bit overstated here, and that is partly my fault be...
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
Mijo, Mijo, Mijo. You consistently mistake your own observations and opinions for science and facts. Tubes are microphonic, some more than others, and most tube gear does benefit from isolation and dampening. Not necessarily with spring suspension...
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
Mijo, I am rather surprised at your attitude toward isolating "electronics".  Perhaps you eschew the use of tube equipment as absolutely as you prefer spring suspended turntables, but anyone who does use tube equipment will know full well that tub...
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
There is as much difference among different air bearing tonearms in terms of these same issues as there is between a Unipivot and a gimbal bearing pivoted tonearm. It would take a separate thread to sort that out.
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms

Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
Mijo, As I recall, the early 3D tonearms from VPI were warping at temperatures where a $4K tonearm, or any tonearm, should not warp.  Like temps reached during shipment or on a very warm day in a non-air conditioned environment.  But they did fix ...
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
In fairness to VPI, I think they long ago fixed the problem with warping of their 3-D tonearm due to heat. And the uniform 3-D structure is touted as an advantage, not a cheap shortcut as you imply.
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
Haha on me. Thank you, thecarpathian, for correcting me. I was indeed thinking of the Tacoma bridge, not the Verrazano. Only today did I see my error. Anyway, the point of my analogy still stands, or falls. If the Verrazano were to shake itself to ...
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
Classic SME tonearms used a "knife-edge" bearing, which is definitely different from a unipivot but does allow for some "chatter".  Mijostyn mentioned this in responding to Elliot's erroneous suggestion that his older SME tonearm was a unipivot.  ...
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
MC, You might be correct about the cause of the bridge collapse. I mentioned it more for the sake of humor than anything else, and my guess is or was that the resonant frequency of the bridge suspension(s) and the wind velocity had something to do...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations?
Mijostyn, no matter what you may “think” and no matter what is your opinion, “velocity” and “speed” are not synonymous. We, all of us, may use them as such, but when we do so we are being sloppy, in a convenient sort of way. Why are we even arguin...
