Sota Eclipse packages for VPI tables. OP, are you saying the complete Eclipse package new costs the same or less than a used SDS? If so I’m very surprised and it’s a no-brainer in favor of Eclipse. I use the antecedent Phoenix Engineering controller on my Lenco, and it’s a big upgrade.
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? Just stop repeating the "oscillating magnetic device" meme, please, and the rest of your thesis would be less indigestible. You seem to think that the engineers who designed these devices were idiots unaware of EMI and the use of shielding materi...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? Mk3 then Mk2 was not the best of the rest in my system to my ears.
Herron VTPH-2A discontinued It will last longer than any of us, with occasional new tubes and very occasional replacement of electrolytic caps, like every 20 years. With heavy use a switch or potentiometer or tube socket might eventually need cleaning or replacement. But bas...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? Mijo, I don’t know which of my posts you’re referencing but my last post was just to remind us why sometimes high effective mass is necessary and that low compliance with high mass is in my opinion not the prime cause of record wear so long as VTF...
Herron VTPH-2A discontinued 12AT7 for low gain (42db); right?
Need help - Denon DP-100 turntable set up of the tonearm lifter The only other person I know about who owns a DP100 is Thuchan, a sometime contributor to this Forum. You might try to PM him.
Denon | 110th Anniversary | Silver-Graphite Headshell and DL103 What cantilever and stylus profile would you recommend, in keeping with JCarr advice not to deviate too far from original moving mass? I’ll have to see if I can even find the cantilever-less body. Last time I had it in hand I seriously considered ...
is there a ghost in my machine? Like MC says, keep swapping leads, all the way back to the cartridge itself if necessary, in order to differentiate between a problem in the CJ, phono only or linestage, and then the cartridge and related ICs. Localizing the problem is what you mu...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? May I interject here that if you want to use a low compliance LOMC, and there are many fine sounding examples, then a tonearm with high effective mass is not an evil; it is a necessity both for best SQ and preservation of the LP. Furthermore, VTF...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? No. There is no validity to the notion that the TP sounds muted compared to the FR64S. In fact, the idea is ridiculous without regarding the particular cartridge.
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? I don’t think resistance, pure and simple, is the main possible issue with physical connections in the signal path. For one thing because each physical connection also has capacitance and/or inductance. For another, because very often the first ga...
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations? Chakster, Hasn't your journey revealed to you that there are many, many excellent cartridges and that the differences among the many very good sounding cartridges are in terms of nuances that may or may not appeal to any particular listener. That...
Denon | 110th Anniversary | Silver-Graphite Headshell and DL103 I own a DL103D that got de-cantilevered in one of my very rare audiophile accidents, many decades ago. I kept the body for reasons I can no longer remember, because back then there were no re-tippers and/or there was no internet for them to adver...
Turntable mat journey I don't think there is "a solution". I think mats are much like seasoning on food; each of us will prefer a slightly different flavor. For that reason, and given your low budget, why not use some creativity and try various available materials? O... |
