Audio Technica AT 666 vacuum disc I think they were pretty good when on the market. But now they’re old and prone to lose vacuum due to air leaks in the system. Given your observations I’d worry about that. If you could localize the leak, you may be able to effect a repair.
Assistance Identifying an Ikeda Cartridge Neon, it seems you have anxiety about repairing a cartridge that at the moment sounds “glorious”. Unless something has changed since you initiated this thread. If not, why not just relax and enjoy?Factoid: two years ago while cartridge shopping in...
Up grade to a new turntable Who said VTA adjustment was unimportant or makes no significant difference?Mijo, you’re thinking of SRA, not VTA, when you mentioned 92 degrees. I’m sure that was just a mental typo. Me, I never have even tried to visualize SRA. I just set VTA so ...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II? Dover, "Forever"? Really?
Blackbird 12.5" Tonearm: revised with DIN Connector. Elliot, You figured it out. To strip those very thin gauge Litz wires, best to either scrape off the insulation with an exacto knife or burn it off with solder. I do the latter. However, if the Litz wires are silver, there is a risk of melting the...
Up grade to a new turntable Yet another vote for the Kuzma, among those on your list. I did have extensive experience with the Well Tempered Reference and its tonearm, when it was owned by a close friend who developed dementia in his last years. Thus I was doing the work for...
I want to ask about deutsche grammophon's new lp vinyl. Hard to avoid LPs with at least one digitized step in their production these days. And many sound great. Judge by the quality of the final product is my advice.
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review elmo and hifi, It would be informative to know what cartridge(s) you are using with the Enabler, because cartridge compliance can have a lot to do with the results achieved, up or down.
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review tomic nailed it better than I did, on the subject of increasing the effective mass of your tonearm. I should have noted, as he suggested, that the closer you are to the headshell directly over the cantilever, the more the added mass adds to "effe...
Blackbird 12.5" Tonearm: revised with DIN Connector. Those UNsoldered Litz wire leads provide an opportunity to run an interconnect direct to the phono stage inputs without a DIN plug in between. Or even to use a balanced connection direct from the cartridge if the phono stage is balanced.
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.) What is “hospital grade vacuum”?
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review I kept trying to say that my theoretical issue with the idea behind the Enabler means nothing and should be ignored by anyone who’s had favorable results. No matter what MC may think of me, I actually do try out modifications and tweaks in my own ...
Ultrasonic LP Cleaning vs. “Thread Type” Cleaning (Keith Monks/Loricraft/etc.) I thought long and hard about a US machine and decided against purchasing because of all the potential issues and "work" involved, at least as I see it. I would worry about US actually damaging LPs, as rightly or wrongly claimed by some others. On...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II? Dover, I think a carbide can be made by combining aluminum oxide with carbon at high heat. That’s what I think, having looked it up just like you probably did. I also think that there was no mention of carbon being used in the manufacture of the o...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II? From reading Neonknight’s quote from the Ortofon website, I have a hunch what they are saying is that when you heat Aluminum Oxide to 1600 degrees C, it will form a ceramic-like substance, but being an oxide of aluminum, I am not sure it meets the... |
