Speakers - Your "Safest" Choice
I recently acquired a pair of Marten Parker Duos and matching stands for about that much, and I am extremely happy with them. I auditioned them at a dealer along with speakers from YG and Dynaudio, and the Marten sound appealed to me more for rock...
Vinyl is back for good and that’s exciting
I buy LP's because I like the sound of well-mastered, well-pressed ones, but even more important to me is the 12x12 physical size of the object; some people DO care about things like being able to see the artwork and be able to read lyrics and cre...
What to ask when buying used speakers?
I would ask if they were broken in yet or were still relatively new? That way I'd know what to expect from the sound over weeks or whatever....
Preamp headphone amplifier
@soix + 1 - and even if the built-in one is not 'really bad', it would likely still be noticeably inferior to a relatively inexpensive but good separate headphone amp, so I would suggest looking into one.
Technics SL-1210G Headshells, Record Weights, and Mats
I might be mistaken, but I seem to recall that Technics tables are not designed to be used with record weights; don't know why. But I've got a 1200G and I don't use a record weight and don't feel a need for one. I do use a Clearaudio Charisma MM ...
Bass lovers - Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo
@minkwelder - thank you for that correction; been a long time since I've seen or listened to them. Yeah, Victor is an amazing bassist, and I didn't realize he was FutureMan's brother - I love that instrument that FutureMan plays!!
Bass lovers - Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo
That's FutureMan on the bass; he is really something....
Pink Floyd Aficionados
You can play it forwards and hear 'I buried Paul' or something that sounds like it....
Mattresses, not stereos is where the money is
Based on experience, I would not recommend keeping a mattress for 15 or 20 years no matter how good it is. Any mattress will eventually start sagging and losing support, and when it does, say hello to serious sciatica and back issues.
What to do with a large collection
Actually, CD's are making a bit of a comeback and there are more new CD players and disc transports coming to market.
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
@tweak1 - I don't know about 'all' - indeed, most sound better with space around them, but there are some speakers that are designed to be set close to the wall.
What Holiday Gifts did you ask for or Give to Yourself?
I got an Ultra-Short Throw projector and an 84" projection screen....
Hearing problems and speaker upgrade
A 'music' setting on a hearing aid may be some programmer's idea of what a 'music' setting should sound like with your gear in your room, but it may not be your's. The best ones to get are where you have some kind of EQ functionality from the remo...
Hearing problems and speaker upgrade
I've worn hearing aids for 20 years or so, and even though I may not hear my gear as well as some other people, I can still tell plenty of relative differences between components, including speakers. Just bought a very pricey pair of 'bookshelves'...
History behind Zappa's Eric Dolphy Memorial BBQ.
Safe to say that FZ was a fan of ED, and Frank did like amusing song titles.
