burn in - how important? @millercarbon - indeed! When I got my Herron phono amp and line-stage amp, Keith said they'd need 150 hours or so to sound their best. As you say, they sounded just fine out of the box, but Keith was not wrong....
Current Best Value In A Pair of Quality 300B's? When i got my Eddie Current Studio B amp, I got Gold Lion 300B's for them. I'd been recommended the JJ's, but they were out of stock everywhere at that point. When they came back in, I did get the JJ's for about the same price, and they were an i...
2019 300B tubes that are worth the money? I recently got the new Georgia-made Western Electrics for my Eddie Current Studio B amp, and they sound awesome - another category altogether from the JJ's I'd been using. Could I find tubes that were as good or even better than the WE's for less ...
flabbergasted with reviews on speakers @arcticdeth - Merry Christmas! So you're saying the reviewers who say they are not being paid are lying, and will recommend crap if they're paid for it? Seems like that would be a great way to lose subscribers and your reputation and not have pros...
How do you explain audiophiles to your friends? I just point them to some YouTube reviews and suggest they check out a few if they want to be amused by some serious geekism... Nothing wrong with geekism, of course, I tend that way myself - I just can't talk about it as well as many of the YouT...
The Boss is the Bo$$ @tgilb - Are you saying one shouldn't criticize anything that one cannot do better? That otherwise we should not have an opinion on it? I wish I could post photos from my computer files; I'd put one up that I took of Bruce and Clarence at a show...
Harbeth again…or other speakers for acoustic music? @twoleftears - I've got both Harbeth Super HL-5's AND Fritz Carrerra BE! I had the Harbeths for years and was perfectly happy with them but wanted to hear what some other sounds would be like. I replaced the Harbeths in my system with the Fritz's,...
Nietzsche and Runaway Audio Consumption @femoore12 - I for one am very happy that science and technology have replaced 'mysticism', and I don't need anybody to tell me what I need or don't need in my life. It would be a boring world if we were all the same! What works for one does not ...
Why Are People So Concerned About How Others Spend Their Money? @kahlenz I agree with your first paragraph, but I can't imagine anybody who wants to hear or feel bass in their sound being satisfied for life (or even minutes) with a pair of Kef LS50's. Fine speakers, but not designed for bass - but if you want ...
Like Pronouns do we have to many music genres? I've always thought a lot of genre-classifying is silly. I like what Phil Lesh said - "The Grateful Dead is its own genre".... But I'm mostly a post-punk guy... And I do not agree about there being 'too many pronouns'.
New high end from Serbia? Auris audio I've got an Auris Nirvana tube headphone amp and it's great - beautiful looking thing, and puts out a lot of power, enough to drive Susvara headphones with volume and muscle. Terrific sound.
What Recordings Of Yours Did Not Age Well? Crosby, Stills, and Nash (and sometimes Young).... Still like some of the Crosby ones, but those Graham Nash songs are about the lamest, wimpiest things I could possibly imagine, for my own tastes. I got rid of those albums a long time ago, though.
Zavfino @thyname - Heard back from Ray with the diagram; he says that eventually the cable will perform equally well in either direction....
Insightful article by Roger Skoff "Paying For Nothing" @nonoise + 1 🤣 "We don't need no education...."
Art for your music room Thanks, folks!! I gotta say that I’m disappointed in what I have for JG and the GD on the basis of how many shows I went to, and the fact that they didn’t care if you brought cameras into shows. I got some gooders, glad you like ’em. The one with ... |
